I constantly monitored the fluids. The transmission works great. Has a clarks pan on it. Not sure about a longer pickup tube. I'll get the Lucas stuff and take it easy the rest of the trip.

The trans holds 12 qts. or so.. When warm and idling nothing will show on the dipstick if it is 1-1/2 qts. low... Find some TransX or Lucas Auto trans sealer and drive on... Only worry if as you take off from a quick stop it jerks, or slips [ flairs ] as you round a sharp corner.. To find the leak... Cool engine Spray trans with BRAKE Cleaner liberally.... then watch...

It's hard to say because it looks like it empty. I add some and it seems to come out when I drive.

Always better to find and fix the problem. No need to oil down the highways, unless you are on a dirt road! :D

It wasn't the fuse the wire in question looks like it was made from crimp connectors.

Update. Matt phoned to say he is running again. The PO had installed a fuse panel near the starter (?) and the starter fuse had blown. He is off again to his local brothers home. He will update all on the forum this evening.

Call him and tell him about jumping the Purple wire that goes to the Starter's Solenoid "S" post.

Matt just phoned me. He is broken down on the side of the roadway just north of St Louis. Starter issues. Anyone in that area who might pop out and give him a hand diagnosing the problem?

That's all part of the adventure! Sounds like you're having a decent drive! Did you stop early enough to find a KOA?

I'm getting two more fan belts tomorrow. Rainx because the wipers are a joke just flop around. A speedo cable would be nice. And while it tracks straight it may benefit from an alignment.

forsale UltraVan #322 has turned up for the first time since 1974! Unfortunately it turned up in a salvage yard, with serious damage to the front and rear roof, apparently from a tree fall. Information and picture are here: http://www.corvair.org/chapters/ultravan/used/used322.html More pictures will be added soon. Safe travels, Owen
