It’s taken me a year , but I built my first corvair motor from scratch and it starts right up. Thanks to all the members of the forum and to HACOA for all your help.... very excited. Still a lot of tuning to do, I really don’t understand these carbs.... and I do have Bob Helts book. In order to keep it from redlining immediately, I put a couple small 2x4 blocks over the carb openings....

Ken- thanks for the reminder. I always seem to forget to post my location when I’m looking for parts I’m in the Kansas City, MO area. I’ve cross posted my request to the HACOA website. Thanks, Matt

If I screw the top rod into the bottom rod all the way so that the entire rod length is at its shortest possible (top rod bottomed out in bottom rod), I still need to push the rod all the way down and close choke fully in order to connect rod to choke. There is no more room for the thermostat to move the choke rod and open the choke? Seems to me a shorter choke control rod would do the trick.

I wish there was a warning posted about Lon.... I spent almost $1k on a rebuild kit. All I got was a box of gaskets worth about $35 at Autozone. Still waiting on pistons, barrels , rings, etc... I ordered the parts 11 months ago. Lon is a thief. Niche market or not, you don’t take people’s money knowing you can’t supply the parts.

Thank you for the reply. I understand that. The oil cooler air is routed thru the cooler to a duct that is part of the heater setup, correct? My question is, do I need the ducting below the oil cooler if I’m not needing any heat?

Comparing my torque converter to another PG converter. His three nut plates that the flex plate bolts screw into, they slide around a little in their brackets. Mine appear to be welded, and amateurishly at that. So mine don’t move at all. Is this ok?

Well, I didn’t suggest a list- that would violate the forum rules. And... the good vendors really deserve our support, that’s the flip side of it. The elephant in the room.... we can’t say the name......

First of all, I’d like to start off by saying the vast, vast majority of the people on the forum are very helpful and a good source of information, as well as kindly disposed to the newcomer. Also kudos to the moderators for helping keep it civil. I got burned by a vendor- I sound like a broken record now, I know. Lessons learned- and I wish this would be made a sticky: 1) research yo

Broke a single piston compression ring. I’m using Grants STD size. Does anyone sell single rings or at least a single piston set? I see Clark’s sells an entire set but I just need a single ring. Thanks, Matt
