The Late floor pan brackets are different for bench vs bucket seats. Found that out the hard way... back in the day.... dernnn itt! But something can be fabricated like Luke did. Nice job! Corventure Dave

As long as you did not hear any detonation or pinging, you are probably fine. One band-aid that I do is turn the heater on and heater fan on at full blast... if I cannot pull over right away. I generally make a practice to change the belt annually in my Greenbrier. That works out to every 10,000 miles. I know the belt I use will go a loooong way further, but the engine in trucks are not as access

Interesting. I have not seen it around here! It is likely a special order like advertised. Half Brier half Panel Van. Buttt if it is a phone co vehicle, the interior is stripped and I have to question how it is mechanically. Perhaos rare as a special order vehicle and that is the only place I see any unique value. I am a FC guy these days. If I had the room I may be interested and would restore

Ay Lon, I think it's great you will be there again. Miss'd seeing you in recent years. Fantastic!!! You both are one of the regular faces at these events and I know as years go by, things change and we are also all getting older. Butt there is great comfort seeing those who have been so helpful and dedicated as you at these annual events. I'm really looking forward to seeing you a

I have been passing your information and the pictures around. It is a tough time to sell anything. I can tell you tho.... if I had a larger garage... I would be up there looking at it myself! Nice Wagon. Hang in there. Corventure Dave

Is the ID tag spot welded in? On the Early Models it should be spot welded, however Export Earlies had them Pop-Riveted. There is a part number in the assembly manual for the rivet's on export's. I had an origional 65 CORSA that had an ID tag that said it was a Monza door. Tags have been swaped around over the years. Lates are riveted in and easy to swap, but seeing yours is a 64 the

I have also seen the fuel pickup screen in the tank and on the sending unit pickup... all gunked and glazed up, restricting fuel flow. Had one rare one... The sending unit was replaced, and it ran fine for a week or so then suddenly would quit. No fuel. Problem turned out to be a flake of solder about half the size of a dime. This was moving around in the tank and because no new sock filter was

Or handle the 90 degree bend. Have personally used these over the years in special industrial applications. Most of the quoted features-advantages are a sales pitch... however... if you have a belt drive unit that the belt(s) are hard to get to... these will save a ton of down time. Corventure Dave

cnicol hit the nail on the head!!! It's static from the belt. Some of the import belts will do this. The resistor on the coil is for electrical noise surppression. It came with a radio kit to help quiet down the buzzzzz. Also as mentioned, the engine has to be properly grounded and the battery has to be grounded to "both" the engine and body. Corventure Dave

Ok... I will share here. Let me premis this by saying there are good oils and great oils. Use what you like the best. I only post here with my actual experience and do not like to post "you may try this or try that". So please use your own judgement. First I am talking about street engines because I put the most miles on daily drivers. The best example I have is my 64 Greenbrier. I

Lon has it right.... down memory lane! The guy who made the hinge covers was in Santa Maria California. He also made a great spin on oil filter adapter. Patidevco was the name he used for his stuff. I don't remember his actual name right now! He worked at Piper Aircraft and made up a vacuum mold it his house. I was there one evening when he took the plastic out of the oven and sucked it int

It seems I remember someone made up some 4.11 sets a long time ago. There may be some still floating about. Butttt thats in the opposite direction you are looking! The 3.08 was the tallest. Another solution....Bus Tires and a nudge to get rolling! Corventure Dave

Tow will directly effect rear camber with the swing axil. More toe out = more negative camber. More toe in = less negative camber. Our Trucks like our Rampside and Greenbrier have a natural positive camber due to spring load rating and vehicle weight. The early cars can be set up with near zero rear camber when everything is new and rear alignment is set at 3/8 toe-in. then drive backwards and se

How are your transmission rubber mounts? If they are not tight, the transaxil and engine will move front to back - side to side.... and there will be no true rear wheel alignment with the Early rear suspension. One rear wheel out of toe could be a "single" bad transmission mount. Corventure Dave

Duane, As a fellow Kalifornian... Lots of great advice given so far. Definately check the distributor number and mechanical advance springs under the points plate. If everything checks out, you may be back to a timing issue. First. Look at the crank pulley. In line with the timing mark is a couple scribe marks that are either side of the rubber center bushing of the crank pulley. If they are

This is what works for me... I have found replacing metal with metal is the only way to go. Yes we deal with rust in Southers California!! Fillers will give out. Rust has to be cut and or sand blasted away. Not having a wire feed welder, I have done many rust and panel repairs with a Oxy-Acetylene brazing torch. Have to be careful of heat load and practice stitch welding techniques, Use the sma

Sometimes when one pulls a plugwire, the end of the wire "that snaps onto the sparkplug" can pull up into the larger boot seal that fits into the fan shroud. When the plugwire is returned, there can be minimal contact with the sparkplug and cause a mis-fire. The only thing holding the plug wire in place is the boot seal. If both the plugwire metal end and boot seal are seated properly,

Over-bore cylinders have been known to crack. Cam shafts that have been reground have been known to have a lobe go flat. I assume you have made sue the valves on #1 are not stuck slightly open. I have seen valve seats that came lose but look fine until the valves are removed. in a couple cases they just fell out of the seat with the valve removed and did not show any real head dammage to the al

Have seen this done. Buttt there is one thing to keep in mind. If the vented cap is used, the fuel vapors will build up in the trunk. One guy I remember had this "really" smelly problem. His wife was not happy when they arrived at the Corvair Convention! A good solution I have seen was to use a sealed gas cap and run the filler neck "vent fose" elswhere.... even into the orig

Jim, I know you have been around Corvairs a while, so comments are for all and any newbee's. The earlier fan will blow more air "cfm" however the weight can make it flywheel and increase the chance of fliping a belt with a stick shift. I use the early 61 -63 fans on my Powerglide engines, unless I want to stick with stock exact proper. There is a nice article on fan cfm output i

My buggy was a Automatic. Had to over fill the transmission by a pint to keep it from sucking air in hard turns and high rpm's. That's an old autocross trick with PG's. I had two brake pedals. Push both to stop. Or... one or the other to enhance a turn and literally pivot on one back wheel! Not fast in a drag but I could do donuts around a single fence post. Or one time a beer cool

Install new bushings. Close the clamps with large Channel-lock pliers. Then install the bolt's. Front wheels off the ground to reduce some of the tension on sway bar. Corventure Dave

Ok, good... the flywheel is eliminated. Just wanted to mention that for new-bees. Next I would use a mechanics stethoscope to try to isolate what cylinder has the noise. Removing the engine fan and top cover will access the rod caps. From there you can check each bearing. True story: Many years ago I had a engine in a junker dune buggy with definite rod knock. The crank had been turned 10

Otto Parts came up with the Otto Parts Super Belt. I had opportunities to talk to Blake Swafford back then. He did reseaurch on the belts that Gates Co. made for the Corvair. I later,, after Blake passed away had a chance to talk with Gates at their headquarters. Dayco and Gates apparently made the OEM belts for Corvairs. The differance is the position and construction of the inner cords... to h
