Forum: Corvair Center Forum 11 months ago Marco_a_p There was "some guy" here on the form that demonstrated using wax drippings from a candle... can't recall who the guy is , but for some reason I'm getting an image of a chicken in a garage... Forum: Corvair Center Forum 1 year ago Marco_a_p The Bullet is not chrome, its stainless steal. Otherwise it would have turned blue/brown/black..... Forum: Corvair Center Forum 1 year ago Marco_a_p I know at one time that they were available separately. But cant seem to find at the moment. Forum: Corvair Center Forum 1 year ago Marco_a_p the trim clips (the little joiner pieces) are the same as the c10 trucks with deluxe trim. LMC and others carry those small pieces. Forum: Corvair Center Forum 1 year ago Marco_a_p Incase you need more incentive or couldn't easily find the link....
More info as to the build... Forum: Corvair Center Forum 1 year ago Marco_a_p Interesting..... so there was a change to the mold for the last year of production for something that was going to be disco in short order? After using the same mold for 3 years? Gotta love the bean counters Forum: Corvair Center Forum 1 year ago Marco_a_p Been following this for a few years now. I feel it would be a perfect addition to those of us that like "old" stuff. Forum: Corvair Center Forum 1 year ago Marco_a_p vent tube goes to a port on the air cleaner
There is a small capillary tube that attaches at about the center of the length of the tube that attaches to the turbo, just after the throttle plate of the carb. Forum: Corvair Center Forum 1 year ago Marco_a_p Looking for a friend. Wants NOS fake air vents for the deck of his all original 61 Monza
Anyone have a pair they are willing to part with? Forum: Corvair Center Forum 1 year ago Marco_a_p Check fuse. there is one fuse for the brake, dome and IP lights. Forum: Corvair Center Forum 1 year ago Marco_a_p I have a used one that needs to be rechromed. PM If interested. Forum: Corvair Center Forum 1 year ago Marco_a_p When I shipped my cars from LA to Mesquite, I went shipping broker, Stars and Strips Auto Shippers. Spoke with Jimmy. I got, what I think anyways, a decent rate, for all four corvairs. Forum: Corvair Center Forum 1 year ago Marco_a_p The stock steel pans will take more of a beating that any alumimum pan ever will.
There is a reason that they are often beat up and dented. Ductile metal weathers road projectiles better that simi brittle metal. Stock steel pans bend, cast aluminums crack. Just an observation.... Forum: Corvair Center Forum 1 year ago Marco_a_p I would think that you would find the info you are looking for in either the assembly manual for the car or the Fisher Body Manual for the model year of the car. But I could be wrong... Forum: Corvair Center Forum 1 year ago Marco_a_p When I had the shop, we used trans jacks similar to the one in your pic. The key is to mount the cradle in the right spot so that the assembly is balanced. Keep the ground clear of small parts and rocks. Easiest way to get the power pack in and out of the car.
We used to use a metal utility cart with a gig we to support the transaxle, mounted to a milk crate, with a deep pan underneath. S Forum: Corvair Center Forum 1 year ago Marco_a_p There were two different companies that made the vert top seals when I was running the shop. Steel was more expensive vs Metro but quality of both was top notch and both had metal reinforcements.
Going to the their respective pages shows about a $100 difference. Of course that it is the standard Retail Price. Vendors with accounts get discounts based on their volume (in most cases) and the Forum: Corvair Center Forum 1 year ago Marco_a_p The boxed in area where the oil cooler sits is larger then the more common one for the the 8 plates. Easier identifier for me has been the smaller summer winter port in front of the oil cooler box. It is just slot about an 1 1/2 wide. Forum: Corvair Center Forum 1 year ago Marco_a_p Here in Mesquite, smog is not required regardless of age. However I have seen later model cars sport the "classic car" plates and wondered what criteria they used to determine "classic" status.
Also, registration fees drop pretty quickly as the vehicle ages. I forget the cut off but after a while its down to $16 a year. Forum: Corvair Center Forum 1 year ago Marco_a_p When I have ever shipped engine blocks, i put the studs facing each other and strap the block so that they dont bonce back and forth Then find a thick box that will fit the block. Usually have to cut down and make flaps out of the tall portion of the box and cut off excess to put around the block. So far no studs have busted out of the box. Forum: Corvair Center Forum 1 year ago Marco_a_p Was Craig Nichols that did a write up on the conversion of the EM FC directional system to the 64/65 system. Only need a connector housing from a 65-66 Car or 64-65 FC fuse block hardness and the packard 56 connectors to convert the stock harness to accept the new directional switch. Forum: Corvair Center Forum 1 year ago Marco_a_p If memory serves me correctly, The block itself will not interfere with the cam itself, but EM Cams (Wide lobes) Will no work with LM Cranks/Pistons. As the longer stroke puts the big end of the rod into the path of the wide cam lobes. Forum: Corvair Center Forum 1 year ago Marco_a_p Old thread....
But i have more of the top switch flipper knobs available if anyone is need. Forum: Corvair Center Forum 1 year ago Marco_a_p Turbonium...
I need to get me one and the rest of the tin so that I can send it out to painter and get it done in metalic red to replace he ones that are on my car and needing some freshening up. Forum: Corvair Center Forum 1 year ago Marco_a_p Had a muffler shop install duals a customers R/S. We supplied the 140hp Upipes and left it up to him to complete the install. Only stipulation the owner had was "I dont want it to sound like a corvair!"
Muffler shop came though with flying colors! Use a flatish "turbo" muffler.
When the 140hp motor with the 270 isky cam fired up, it sounded like a V8 at idle.
