If you want to do the conversion on the cheap buy a 63 amp rebuilt alternator from your local parts store.About 40.00 in tn.I bought one for a 1977 Impala with factory air to get the higher amp rating.Put the Corvair front mount on the new alternator after taking the new front bearing out of the new alternator and transferring it to the Corvair end frame.A 2.00 wiring plug from the parts store wi

My 65 monza sat 15+- years in a pole building. The mice had built houses everywhere in that time. They apparantly like peeing on the bell housing above the starter. The corrosion of the aluminum housing caused it to expand and pull away from the cast iron diff case. This caused a rather alarming starter misalignment which only got worse when I loosened the 2 starter bolts.A couple of broken starter n

I forgot but the stock 14" fc rims do not work with the speedway kit.I found some used 14" nova steel rally rims and they fit over the calipers fine.My stock 3 prong wire covers fit the nova wheels too.Make sure your spare is a nova wheel too.

Don't waste time making your own kit.I have installed 2 of their kits on my fc's and 3 years later no issues.Like 250 bucks on sale and sometimes free shipping. You will need a master cylinder and some lines.Easy to do.I used a 1975 chevy nova manual disc brake master(25 bucks or so at the zone).I have not seen the need for a proportioning valve either. The steering knuckles end up in a s

If it was my car I would'nt care.Being that it is a customers car I don't want to get blamed if his alternator smokes out and I don't want to be badmouthed when someone that knows better sees the wrong fan and throws me under the bus as being a "hack" corvair mechanic.I am converting his car to a internally regulated higher amp unit and they probably run a little hotter t

I soaked the heater box lever area with pb blaster a few times.I waited a few days and with the help of an assistant in the car pulling up on the heat lever and with me pushing the lever on the heater box under the car it went "pop" and now works perfectly. Thanks for the help.

I am bringing back to life a 64 convertible that sat 20-25 years inside. The car is now road ready but I forgot to check the heater controls while the engine was out.The "heat" cable works perfectly but when you connect it to the heater box it will not move. The lever on the box is stuck. The manual says to pull the powertrain to remove the heater box.Is there a trick to free up the heat l
