I think you are right. It looks like you can see a little sunlight peeking though around the horse collar. You'd only see that if the rear bulkhead was removed.

Not sure what is going on with the angle iron bracing in the engine bay, though my guess is that it is supporting the transaxle since there is no engine.

Before you re-install the crossmember would you kindly measure the height and width of the frame rail where the crossmember bolts up?
Thanks in advance,
Dave in CR Forum: Corvair Center Forum 6 years ago Vairforce1 I really like the total blackout treatment on this car: Forum: Corvair Center Forum 6 years ago Vairforce1 In the pic above, and in the one of the Hugger Orange car, it appears that rear vertical edge of the door window does not quite match the contour of the quarter window. Is this an optical illusion? Are these pre-production prototypes? It just does not look quite right.
Dave Forum: Corvair Center Forum 6 years ago Vairforce1 Consider using C1 Corvette rear shocks. Bilstein makes shocks for the C1 as well. More info and part number is in this post:
Dave Forum: Corvair Center Forum 6 years ago Vairforce1 You are right, Phil, there is more than one!

You mentioned she came from Tennessee, so how about that as a name?

This link has some good info regarding backspacing of various Firebird and Trans am wheels -
Where are you located? I have four rear GTA wheels (5.25" backspace) I'm willing to sell. I'm located in eastern Iowa.
Dave Forum: Corvair Center Forum 7 years ago Vairforce1 I have a very clean RH case (65-67 110 Powerglide) I'll sell for $50. I'm located in Cedar Rapids.
Dave M. Forum: Corvair Center Forum 7 years ago Vairforce1 Actually, the Corvair came off pretty well in comparison to the Pinto:
"The centerpiece of the museum, its Venus de Milo, is a pristine 1963 Corvair, a fetching tomato-soup red, truly a thing of beauty — even Nader concedes “it’s one of the prettiest cars ever designed†— if it weren’t such a highly documented, frequently litigated implement of destruction."

Looks like your idea was discussed several year ago - see
BTW, I recall others (aeroned?) saying that the area at the base of the rear window was a low pressure area. Would this mean that air from the engine compartment would be sucked out from there? Or is this negated by the fan? Would it be more efficient to use Yenko flaps (or a scoop) as the location for your cold air source, Forum: Corvair Center Forum 7 years ago Vairforce1 I think Dave is right - the body tag indicates P-P, which is the paint code for Evening Orchid.
Also, I find it interesting that the body tag indicates this car was built one week earlier than mine (eBay EO Turbo on top, my EO 140 on bottom).
Dave Forum: Corvair Center Forum 7 years ago Vairforce1 Yes, Subarugears has a reverse ring and pinion gear set - Forum: Corvair Center Forum 7 years ago Vairforce1 This is the second mid-mounted Subaru drivetrain I'm aware of, the other used a 3.3L six from an SVX.

Dave Forum: Corvair Center Forum 8 years ago Vairforce1 The original battery in our five-year-old van won't hold a charge so I need to get a new one. Any recommendations on decent batteries, or ones to avoid?
Thanks,

Hard to tell if this is a faded EO car or a silver one (ad says it has custom paint):

This article might give you some inspiration:
One thing that caught my eye was the rod/stroke ratio. According to the Stan Weiss site - - the stock rod / stroke ration is 1.7529:1, which indicates the Buick 3.8L engine can rev (think of the old Chevy 327 ). The stroker motor in the article brings the ratio down only slightly to 1.74:1. This looks to be a good platform.
Dave Forum: Corvair Center Forum 8 years ago Vairforce1 This article explains the concepts behind stroker motors and rod ratios pretty well -
