Yes, i'm not planning on abusing the car, because of the same reason, my only car, and that i dont really need to put more work into it. Im hoping to get a little mig (used from pawn shop) and finish up the body work, because the little stick welder i have just doesnt cut it, takes too long and requires too much work. Thanks again, i also lowered the front of the car as well, about 3-4 in off

ok, would it be a necessary as a tougher diff? Would that be something that could be done later, cuz i just rebuilt all the CV joints and got new rubber covers for them. im thinking about getting a super diff or something similar, what would be the direct benefit of that being that there would be more power to the ground, and less one-wheel-wonder?? Sorry im not completely understanding wh

ok you may have a good point but do these parts fit into the transaxle i got, just a standard IRS transaxle, running reverse, everyone tells you you cant do it with irs, well baby i did. I had to special order a double side cover transaxle case for it, but that is besides the point. Anyway where do i get a beef a diff, is it similar to a SUPER DIFF?? Thanks Troy W

Ha, Hey one step at a time right?? Gotta start out with what you can afford, and what doesnt try to kill you, "at any speed" Anyway, i think that it probably would be a later model turbo, i think once you go turbo you dont go back?? ggg... Whatever is cheaper and in the best condition for the money spent. Basically with my car i believe i got a good deal, no rust, no engine, no problems, right? A

yup thanks again, Old VW's i think are so cool, because they are so simple, yet so intricate, if you know what i mean, and they are so easy to work on. Only so much can go wrong with so simple designs and the little amount of parts. Well anyway thanks again, hopefully it can get all figured out soon. BTW you are not the only person whose dream car is a porsche 911, i personally rode in a 99

Ok thank you again, unfortunately i cannot repay you with helpful advice or anything of that such, but possibly, just possibly, i may be able to make your day less boring, at least with my police encounters and such. Thanks Troy W

Ok i was wondering, are the YH carbs really simple to tune, is that why you might be inclined to think that it is a fuel problem?? FYI im better now and my brother got sick, which is not exactly a good thing but i can stay home from school....and work on my car, which may sound a little crude, and might be, but do not think that i dont appreciate him for what he is, even if that is a reason to st

thanks a lot, i hope i get better soon too. and Matt, what do you mean "CARB??" add a regulator? Sorry i dont really understand, maybe you or someone else could give me some pointers on how exactly to get it tuned properly, there is a small 1/4 in pipe that runs from the turbo to the carb, im not exactly sure what this does, but it isnt in place yet, yet because i have it but am too lazy to pu

Hey thanks all, sorry i hope i didnt convey the fact that my neighbors hated the loud exhaust, they just found it rather annoying, i guess, i have no idea why??:P Anyway i think that most of the neighbors actually like it except for the odd one..... this being said i do our next door neighbors driveway when it snows, every time she pays me she asks me, "hows the car, whens it going to be ab

Ok makes sense, there is no muffler on the turbo right now, just straight pipe running down from exhaust outlet on turbo on down. Pointed straight at the ground, there is no muffler and i probably should put on on there. Thanks again, im not sure whether to go the cheap route of glasspack, or a thrush turbo muffler, anybody had expirence with turbo mufflers? Thanks Troy W

Ha, hey im open to suggestions because apparently it got deemed by the family, "obnoxiously loud" What is the best turbo muffler to put on it that will still sound rumbly and can still hear the turbo. Another weird thing i found out after just letting my car idle for a while, probably 10 mins, after i shut it off the turbo started to make a crackling/popping sound not unlike boiling water, onl

Starting problem was, im not really sure, i got the starter and engine in the car and hooked it up and viola it started, im guessing it may have been because of the long jumper cables cause volrtage drop or amp loss, whatever, anyway its all in the car and works, now.........nooooooo.....bodywork!!! steve, love the 1 allows some warm up of the engine and 2 my neighbors all wave as I go by (us

Ok everything is all good now, engine runs good little lifter tick that is annoying the heck out of me, how do i fix that?? Anyway i found out after some research, my own, that if you drop the clutch in first and mat the gas, it roasts the tires for as long as you want.........this being said i havent tried shifting mid-burnout but i might..... anyway just thought id give you all an update, an

ok ill do that, it should be in the inch pounds range of about 13? I was going to say when someone said on here before 25 ft lbs and work up, there's no way that can be with the plugs in. Anyway if its above 13 there is a problem?? thanks Troy W

ok i got this right.... plugs out, inch pounds torque wrench, do i have to take the fan belt off to create less drag? Other than that i'll give it a go, probably can rent one at autozone along with a macpherson spring compressor. Thanks Troy W

And what should the torque be for turning the engine over with all plugs in with a torque wrench? I dont think thats a problem its hard but you can easily bar it over on the harmonic balancer bolt, i dont really think its the problem but might as well check. I might be able to borrow one. Thanks Troy W

Nope i checked that too, it was backfiring out the carb until i figured that out, but that was before when i first started it......only thing i can think of is that since its on a bit of an angle because of the turbo crossover pipe, the float is off and flooding the engine, which could be possible..... i dont know could it be that it needs more oil? Might pick up some starting fluid at the same t

Hello all, I have a question, i tried to start the engine out of the car, hooked up jumper cables and a wire to the distributor coil. The engine would turn over and it turns over fast enough, with my new hi torque starter, good product BTW. But it wont start, it has spark, i has compression, and it has gas. SO the only thing is the timing right? Ok so i static timed it to 24 degrees BTDC as it

its not hard to bar over at all, indeed one like myself can turn it over with my hand on the flywheel/ring gear. I didnt over tighten them, i knew what the torque specs were and used simple calculations to make sure that i didnt over/under tighten them. 1 ft long socket wrench, and torque spec, put however many pounds of force behind it approx. and its all good. thanks I know i shouldve but

the starter had an internal short somewhere, according to Chris at hi tork and hes sending me out a new one. So steve i did sort of kind of use a torque wrench..............that being said, it was torque to tight, in order from inside to out so not to warp, and then to a little tighter, and then tighten to full. Just me and my craftsman half inch socket wrench. Its not to correct way but its

ok steve ill have to get a torque wrench, ive just used my toque elbow on this build, i know some are cringing right now but hey its fine now.....so far ;) What would be the purpose of doing that? To see the resistance or what, i know i now have oil pressure at least my gauge says so, around 70 psi or so.... So to get back to you steve im wondering what exactly would be the point of that...

ok whatever it sounds cool anyway to me, a senior in high school where everyone either drives toyotas or hondas or cheap domestic crap. I think that the nice warble tone, deep and manly, that it makes just sounds sweet, and then you get on the gas and it screams, at least in my case, no muffler just straight pipe from turbo........might be why it does whine, and whine sounds stupid as well, ki
