Throttle shafts are cheap for Corvairs. I almost always replace them when rebuilding carburetors.

I think it is very possible that you got 2 bad regulators. I like Matt's answer but I would think the other regulators would also overcharge. Maybe the solid state ones act differently with a wire disconnected?

You need to figure out which coil you have before swapping the Ignitor. You can burn up the Ignitor with the wrong coil.

Isn't that the wire for the light in the instrument panel? Use a meter to see which brown wire is connected to that light socket.

It shouldn't be a problem but as Frank said the grey wire is grounded somewhere. You'll have to track that down and fix it.

I messaged him to see where the 5th truck is located. The price seems crazy high to me but some don't appear to have much rust. Other cars I've bought from Colorado were really rusty.

He's concerned about how many times you can press the pin in and out before the press fit is lost. That is a concern but I don't have an answer. There probably isn't one except to measure the small end each time. Reconditioning rods does nothing for the small end but they are supposed to check it.

The front left lift point using my main 2 post lift rarely has any weight on it with Corvairs. All the other vehicles I put on it seem normal. I attribute this to Corvairs being fairly stiff and having such light front ends. It never has been an issue.

Solid aluminum is not ok. Corvairs break cracks with the balancer so not having one is a big risk.

It does switch the dome light but the dome light isn't powered through the coil. (Or shouldn't be)

"the coil on the dimmer started glowing" I'm failing to see how the dome light could have anything to do with the problem. As far as I know the instrument cluster lighting is the only thing controlled by the dimmer.

Since yours is doing the opposite of the common failures the wire from the sender might be grounded somewhere. I've never seen that happen but it is possible since ground on that wire will show empty. Maybe the wire is pinched somewhere?

Numbers that good cold and that low high are very suspect. I'm not saying I know what it is but I have had overheated rings and none of them had good compression cold or hot.

Maybe that would tend to happen with a battery with a dead cell but the others were fully charged. I'll bet the Harleys have solenoids that are just barely big enough.
