I replaced my mechanical fuel pump in the last few months. My 64 starts so much better and runs better that I can not say enough about this changeover. Dump the mechanical pump. I also used toe special casting on the middle of the existing pump so no repiping of gas lines on the engine. Great change!

Just wanted to thank all of you for your input. The O.E. switch works like a charm and LED bulbs are great in those backup fixtures.

Is the backup switch the drain plug for the tranny? The switch works but the wires are off. Plan to solder new wires on the switch. Can I do that with the switch in place or should I remove it?

Thank you everyone. So far, getting the idle reduced and carbs synced is making all the difference in the world. Changed nothing else

This has happened for quite some time. idle does not seem to be too high bit I will lower. Starter has not been a factor as it happened prior to change. Could be fuel mixture as that is still an option. Will check that today. Could vacuum advance be a cause?

Installed the John Sweet starter today, even without the special ratchet wrench. Nasty job but worth it as it STARTS! Love it and my CORVAIR.

Anyone have an extra starter motor for a 60-69 Corvair? Mine has a dead spot. Check everything and yes, it is the starter motor that is bad. HELP

Matt Add me to that list. Should have never used his carbs as they did not even look the same as o.e. carbs. Many problems. Put old ones back on, adjusted a few screws and good as new. Grant's are in a box on their way back to him.

Matt was right! Not a starter problem but in the ignition switch!

New problem. No starter motor functions on my 64. Turn key and no sounds, just a slight dim on the interior lights. No click from solenoid, nothing. Checked the ground wire from the battery to body, to new alternator. All good. Battery charged fully. Nothing when using jumper cables to Corvair cables. Ideas, comments?

Thank you all for the comments. The Diode is removed and all works great. Next project is to replace the carbs with rebuilds from Grant Young in Fla. and complete the electric fuel pump installation.

I just installed an alternator ipo the generator/voltage regulator on my 64. Changed everything needed to make modification but now the gen light fails to come on at startup. A little flicker at shut down. Every indicator light worked fine prior to change out. Checked the diode in the blue alternator wire and it is ok. IDEAS?

Just got a new boot from Clarks as old one would not slide or snap properly. Too old and brittle. Well worth the expense. New one slid right in and all snaps now work properly.

I HAVE THE DIAGRAM FOR WIRING MY NEW ELECTRIC FUEL PUMP ON MY 64. IT SHOWS A WIRE TO THE IGNITION SWITCH FOLLOWED BY A 1 AMP FUSE. EXACTLY WHERE CAN I TAP THIS WIRE INTO THAT COMES FROM THE IGNITION SWITCH? AND DO I NEED TO USE THE OIL PRESSURE SENDER IN LINE IF I USE AN INERTIA SWITCH AND PRIMER SWITCH? THANKS ALL

I do not want this third brake light to flash with turn signals. Turn signals and brake light filaments are the same on a 64. Can anyone give me a schematic on the wiring or is it in a third light fixture that I am yet to locate? Appreciate any and all suggestions.

Anyone ever put a third brake light on a 64 or earlier vair convert? If so, please advise how and where the light fixture came from. These cars seem so low that the stock brake lights might be assisted with a third light mounted on the panel behind the rear engine cover. Comments?

Has anyone mounted the new electric fuel pump with rubber grommets between the mounting strap and the frame of the car to stop the ticking sound?

Check on the black side serial number. The last 3 digits are the week and year of manufacture. Don't be caught buying tires older than 8 years as they should be scrapped for sidewall weather-checking. I was a tire guy. Am replacing Firestone FR380 tires that are 8 years old and look perfect. Great if you do not plan to drive your vair. I just assumed your car is a driver.

Can someone give me their latest thinking on installation of an electric fuel pump in my 64 Monza 110? I would like parts list, schematic and locations for install. I understand that the best emergency shut-off is the oil pressure sending unit. Comments?
