Thanks for educating me on it. It was definitely a head scratcher. Forum: Corvair Center Forum Today doug6423 What is the difference between these two boxes?? Why does one have the rectangular black box, and the other doesn't??
The one with the rectangular box came out of my car and the other came out of the parts car. Both seem to be in the same condition. I'll rebuild and paint one to install, just curious what the rectangle is for.

> If you do stuff a fake NOS bottle in there, make sure you light it up with some L.E.D.'s at night! I like that idea. The kid in me wants to do it, but I'm going to pass, since it would be one more thing to take car of. Forum: Corvair Center Forum 3 days ago doug6423 Sorry Dean. I went out there to measure and the previous owner did not measure. He has 4 to a side for a total of 8 on the whole piece. But just eyeballing them they are just haphazardly put on. I should have checked first before volunteering. Forum: Corvair Center Forum 4 days ago doug6423 On my 65 Dean, they are screwed onto the cowl. I'm guessing the studs are long gone.
Still want measurements where the screws are at while I have mine off? Forum: Corvair Center Forum 4 days ago doug6423 Last week I took the transmission/differential to Dan Brizendine to be rebuilt. I attached the pictures he sent me. Overall not bad, I'm just glad it's getting refreshed and another item checked off the list.
In the meantime I removed the rear lid so it's easier to sand and prep the cowl area. Also continuing to scrap in the engine bay. Forum: Corvair Center Forum 6 days ago doug6423 Check out Gem stone shift knobs and see what they have. Forum: Corvair Center Forum 9 days ago doug6423 RexJohnson Wrote:

You're correct, a 66 convertible. I've only taken used parts from a convertible which is now gone and a 65 coupe. And Forum: Corvair Center Forum 9 days ago doug6423 Clark's used Ultimate Exhaust for sale. It now list for $524 on their website.
I still have the baffles, which were never installed, paperwork including the diagrams for cutting your lower pans, which I never did. Ran it straight and really liked the sound out of them.
They have some road rash but no holes.
$250 plus shipping. Forum: Corvair Center Forum 9 days ago doug6423 And for those as inexperienced as me on Corvairs, below are the pictures of the rear cowl with a lip like mine off of a 65 and the other, without a lip, I'm pretty sure is off of a 66. There is a difference in the hump in the middle too.
Mine had 5 screws buried under the butyl.
Now I'll clean up where mine sat and put a nice coat of POR-15. Forum: Corvair Center Forum 9 days ago doug6423 This is why the rear cowl grille had to come off. I wasn't about to put a nice engine in the engine compartment and leave this area looking like this.
Do I put an NO2 bottle in this area after I repaint it??? I have an aluminum oxygen bottle I thought about painting and buy the stickers off the internet. Forum: Corvair Center Forum 15 days ago doug6423 Phil Dally Wrote:

You are correct, it is butyl. Mercedes use to use it and I'm familiar with it. So far I'm a Forum: Corvair Center Forum 15 days ago doug6423 I climbed into the attic and looked at an old rear grille I have. Apparently different design for different years. The one in the attic did not have a lip that would be screwed down. Looked like it fit flush. So I dug into the thick urethane hoping for an easy removal...
However, I discovered mine is one that has a lip and is screwed down under the thick urethane. So tonight I dug out enou Forum: Corvair Center Forum 16 days ago doug6423 ihscomputers Wrote:

Dean, I'm sure God has a list of all the times I swore to him if he would just get me home, out of a situation, from throwing up, etc... That I would become a priest, give up my sinful ways, I'd never do it again, etc...

All the old timers and corvair folks said stuff like "when that turbo spools up youd better hang on" amd all the stories about turbo corvairs blowing away fast cars. So I was expecting this to be at least somewhat comparable Forum: Corvair Center Forum 22 days ago doug6423 Adopted 2 kids that were just 6 months apart in age from the 2 we had. Awesome experience and loved it!
I've thought about fostering or even trying to help young people that age out of foster care and no one to call family.
On another side note... My son in Syria said he wants to look at classic cars when he gets back. I said 'Great'!! Of course I'm thinking of 50's Forum: Corvair Center Forum 23 days ago doug6423 And the engine is finally out. Not without some issues of course, but my fault this time. I forgot to bolt the Dave Motohead Engine Bracket to the engine. Thankfully it didn't thud to the floor and I had help. We some how got it down without it coming off or getting hurt.
Also found the nut coming off of the RT Rear Hub. AND one loose bolt holding the transmission to the center bracke Forum: Corvair Center Forum 23 days ago doug6423 scottymac Wrote:

Your car's come a long way since I drove down a couple years ago to buy your RM code engine case, wish I had made the same or close amount of progress as you. You can be proud of it, will be looking Forum: Corvair Center Forum 24 days ago doug6423 When you bleed the brakes watch the 3 way connector on the back wall. I had new lines and a new connector and I had to really torque down to get it to stop leaking brake fluid. Forum: Corvair Center Forum 26 days ago doug6423 Nice!
I need to do something with mine. It's long and hits the steering wheel going into reverse. Thanks for the post. Forum: Corvair Center Forum |
