I have installed wide striping on the trunk and hood of my Corsa. It was one wide stripe with one thin stripe on either side of that. It was so difficult working with the material and even more difficult to get the stripes to lay over the raised seam on the trunk and all of the multiple highs and lows of the trunk and hood.

When I manually adjust it the brakes tighten. I rotate it down. I can loosen them by pulling the tightening lever (don't know the name)away from the star nut and rotating the nuts up.
This is a new issue after I changed the brakes... and I only did one side at a time so the left Forum: Corvair Center Forum 7 weeks ago SkidRo @Craig This is a good place for me to start. It only has a few miles on it each time. I will report back my findings. Forum: Corvair Center Forum 7 weeks ago SkidRo All,
I have a strange issue with the left front brake on my 66 Corsa. It appears that the brake shoes keep loosening on the left front. I will provide a little back story first. Not related to this new issue, I have new shoes, new wheel cylinder and the drum (s) were turned. The reason for that was the cylinder was seized and the shoes were ruined in the process. Once replaced, the front brakes Forum: Corvair Center Forum 4 months ago SkidRo I saw this car over the weekend at a "cruise In", as they are called in the Myrtle Beach area. The weather was a bit cold so we only had a early 60s Corvette, a mid 60s El Camino and three Corvair's (65 Corsa Turbo, this 62 and my 66 Corsa).
As for the Corvair for sale, it is a really nice survivor car. The interior is absolutely perfect. Everything looks brand new. It has a du Forum: Corvair Center Forum 4 months ago SkidRo Rick Sanford sent me a few pictures of this car. He had it at his garage the other day to check it over for the sale. It does not belong to him but he is leading the sales effort. He states that it is a beautiful car inside and out and needs nothing except to be driven. He even stated it has factory paint. I have not seen the car myself as I missed our club meeting. Call or email Rick and he wi Forum: Corvair Center Forum 5 months ago SkidRo Hi Dave. I received mine today. Thanks. I plan on using two and checking to see if any club members want any so I can spread your joy even further. Forum: Corvair Center Forum 8 months ago SkidRo JO, there are a few Corvair people in the Myrtle area if you need something. One guy is in North Myrtle Beach proper (one block off the beach, which is probably getting hammered right now). I am not sure we are in a better position than you at present (we are getting heavy rain and winds right now) but reach out if needed. I'll PM you my number. Forum: Corvair Center Forum 8 months ago SkidRo 10. Re: Hurrican Ian @JO, you are literally at ground zero at the campground. I ran a topographic map of the campsite and it claims to be from almost zero at the beach up to 30' at the rear (non-beach end). For now, the wind and rain has stopped at my house but I am sure there's more to come. Forum: Corvair Center Forum 8 months ago SkidRo 11. Re: Hurrican Ian I am west of Myrtle Beach in-between MB and Conway. We moved here 3 months ago. Right now (10:20am) The rain is heavy and the wind is steady at 15 mph with gale force up to 44 mph later today. We put everything inside the garage except for the Audi. It doesn't fit with the Corsa and Rampside. This is our first hurricane and it is going to be an experience that we will learn from. Luckily, w Forum: Corvair Center Forum 9 months ago SkidRo I worked on a non-start no power issue on my 66 Corsa. Randomly, when I turned the key there was no power at the ignition switch and no lights on the dashboard. I cleaned the battery posts and cables, disconnected the main wiring harness/engine harness and cleaned and inspected the contacts and made sure they were in securely. I also suspected a bad ignition switch but I did not have that at my i Forum: Corvair Center Forum 11 months ago SkidRo Thanks for the quick responses. I will check these things especially vacuum leaks, I have not replaced the decades old rubber lines yet.
It is points with the stock fuel pump.
I agree that it could be the carbs after the rebuild. Forum: Corvair Center Forum 11 months ago SkidRo All,
Up until about 1 month ago or so I could start, idle and drive my Rampside without issue (still not on the road but drive it as in test drives, etc.).
This is a 110, I rebuilt the carbs a while back, and I synced, set the idle, set timing ... (not in that order but just clarifying what I did and how it ran).
The ONLY thing that I did since then is drop the transmission pan (it' Forum: Corvair Center Forum 1 year ago SkidRo I was in Myrtle Beach this weekend and stopped at a locale car show. A few people there told there is a guy with two Corvairs in the area. Does anyone know who he is?
Thanks Forum: Corvair Center Forum 1 year ago SkidRo I picked up a few parts for my Rampside, like chrome bumpers, rear window, steering box, and some new rocker panels. One thing I totally forgot about were exhaust manifolds. Mine are shot so I may be back to Gary's to find a pair.
This was the first time I met Gary and what a really nice person. His knowledge alone was worth the visit. Forum: Corvair Center Forum 1 year ago SkidRo So far my testing has proven that the ground from the sender to the frame is fine. When I remove that ground, turn the ignition "on" the needle still goes to E. When I turn the ignition off the needle slowly returns to F.
So ground or no ground the gauge acts the same. I was able to wiggle the brown wire that runs to the sender and it appears that it is not pinched. But that is just Forum: Corvair Center Forum 1 year ago SkidRo To echo RobertC, if the rotor button is sloppy or loose on the distributor I suggest finding one that fits snug. Both of mine are snug. Forum: Corvair Center Forum 1 year ago SkidRo I have a short story about dwell and points. I used my dwell meter to set the points. I had it dialed in perfectly. The car ran like crap. I checked it again and the dwell was perfect. Ran like crap.
I checked the dwell one more time a few days later using the correct setting on the dwell meter (6 cylinder) instead of the 8 cylinder setting. The car ran great.
It's just a suggestion bu Forum: Corvair Center Forum 1 year ago SkidRo @joelsplace - that is also a possibility and will be part of the troubleshooting. That wire is new and it had to be connected to the sender when the tank was being squeezed in. It is possible that it was pinched during this process. I installed the tank by myself cursing the entire time and it was hard doing 10 things at once solo. Forum: Corvair Center Forum 1 year ago SkidRo Thanks Craig. I am reading the post and it still sounds opposite what I am experiencing. I am at E with power and F with power.
But all the tests are simple and I will step through them. I am trying to remember if I can actually reach the sender in the Rampside but I will soon find out.
The absolute last thing that I want to do is pull that damn tank out again. Laying on my back on conc Forum: Corvair Center Forum 1 year ago SkidRo I have, to me, a strange problem. On my Rampside, when the power is off the fuel gauge reads Full. When power is on the gauge reads Empty. From what I have read most symptoms point to opposite actions in regard to the power.
I have at least 5 gallons of gas in the tank, if not more.
The only thing I found that is similar is an Jack O'Shea article on Corvair Forum stating that if there Forum: Corvair Center Forum 1 year ago SkidRo I had to buy a reducer to step down from the Harley muffler to the u pipe. I also had to cut a bit off the muffler so it didn't stick out to far out the back. I bought the reducer from my local flaps. They were inexpensive. Forum: Corvair Center Forum 1 year ago SkidRo Another attempt with smaller files. My above post can be deleted.
I installed some Harley mufflers on my Corsa. Their length was right around 28". It took a bit of work to get them to fit the u pipe but I eventually got them to fit and seal. I like the look and the sound. It's not too loud but just enough. There is some drone at a certain speed so I avoid that when possible.
Edit Forum: Corvair Center Forum 1 year ago SkidRo I had a similar issue when I started my Corsa after a week or so of sub-freezing weather in the DC area. It warmed up a little outside so I decided take the Car for a spin. Once it started I backed it out of the garage, open the hood and looked around the engine compartment. I always do this out of habit. The oil filter where it seats to the adapter had oil coming out of it. It was running down Forum: Corvair Center Forum 1 year ago SkidRo We used a Goop of Glycerin, not Oil! Yes, I have seen the difficulties installing the deluxe gasket so I am lucky it was the standard. Forum: Corvair Center Forum 1 year ago SkidRo UPDATE
A few NVCC group members came over yesterday to install the windshield. I had the gasket on already from the last meeting, the windshield was inside my house to keep it and the gasket warm and pliable, and I heated the garage prior to the session. It took us about an hour to install the windshield.
Thanks go out to Rita, Fred, Bob and Mark for helping get the task done.
There Forum: Corvair Center Forum 1 year ago SkidRo Thanks everyone.
After getting the gasket most of the way on without stretching it and using plenty of tape to hold our progress, it appears to be slowly constricting (contracting).
Next, I set the windshield outside in the sun for a few hours. Then the rain came so back inside it went. However, during that time I was able to get the windshield into the entire gasket. I few more pieces of t Forum: Corvair Center Forum 1 year ago SkidRo @colorsarge - I was thinking about that but then it could be too stiff to get the glass in it. It is so close now we are going to let it sit in place and hopefully will shrink/compress... to fit like a glove and not a trashbag Forum: Corvair Center Forum |
