I did the same, in that area, as well as down the a pillar, into the rocker drain area. I used Corroseal, and sprayed it on. Not sure of the longevity, but im sure it will outlast me. :D My $ .02 -m

No pictures, but i installed Clark's dash mounted speaker kit, in the 65 '500' sedan. The one they say sounds better, and is more expensive. LOL It was pretty easy to put in, and it sounds pretty damn good. Thank you Clark's. -m

I wouldnt throw the baby out with the bath water. Yeah, you have some issues with the diff, but the powerglide is a robust mech. You can fix the leaks and drive on, most likely. Since you have it out, have the trans looked at, by a Corvair person. Your "unsure", and "slip" feeling, most likely was/is that loose pinion gear. What exactly do you plan on doing with it? This will better help the "pros" give you specific advice. Maybe not with this particular machine, but with a decision. In my travels, of body work, both professionally and building Corvairs, i have rarely had to use a TIG welder. I only offer this, because you are inquiring, on a DIY Corvair forum. My $ .02 -m
