Hi Gang, I have completed a search of the forum and I cannot find what I am looking for. The interior paint on my corvair needs to be refinished and I am looking for the percentages of gloss used on the various interior painted surfaces. My interior is black, so I don’t have any issues with color, but there appears to be a number of gloss percentages used on various painted parts on my i

I had a P-II in my Spyder and it failed after 5 or so years. I removed it and put points back in. Additionally, the pertronix II does not work with Ray Sedman’s Safeguard System, which I absolutely love. Joe

Clarks called me today. The sale is an error and they have no stock. Sadness.

Thanks everyone. The defroster lever on my Corvair has been broken ever since I have owned it. I can rebuild mine, but will need to replace the defroster lever. Anyone have a good defroster lever they want to part with? Joe

Hi Gang, I am looking for a NOS or very nice heater control assembly. If used, all the levers must be in good shape. I have an NOS switch so it is less important. Thanks! Joe Needpart

Thanks! I was hoping to give the business to someone on the forum... and it turns out someone had one so I am all set. I have spent so much money with Clarks over the past 25 years, I thought I would help folks clear their shelves. Hi Gang, Just a quick note to remind everyone how important it is to pay attention to changes in the behavior of your Corvair. Some of you may recall that I had a lower ball joint failure that presented itself before it ultimately failed as a change in steering wheel orientation. I ignored the change and ultimately paid the price by being stuck 200 miles from home. Thankfully this forum cam

They are reproducing them now, so I suspect it is not worth much unless someone collects original filters. The best way to find out for sure is to auction it on eBay. Joe

My Corvair is named “The Corvair”, my Jeep is named “My Jeep”, my wife’s Jeep is named “Your Jeep”. My parents named their vehicles, I never have. This said, I get very attached to my vehicles so even without names, they are family members.

Putting my engineering hat on, I must believe it was for a reason. Fact: the NOS upper ball joints I have are tight; they are as tight as the aftermarket lower ball joint I have. If Chevrolet engineers wanted, they could have produced a tight lower ball joint, but they didn’t. Not only did they not produce a tight lower ball joint, but they specified in the service manual that the lower ball jo

Thanks for starting this thread Nick. I would have never guessed that the NOS lower ball joints would be intentionally loose. I wonder if they were designed this way to intentionally build some slack in the spindle assembly. The only thing that makes sense in my mind is that the looseness removes the potential of binding or excess stress in the ball joint spindle combination. Maybe it removes tol

Nick, As soon as the removal tool gets here, I will be swapping my second lower balljoint out. I don’t mind being the guinea pig and seeing how it works before you go tearing yours apart. Joe

You have a wire incorrectly installed on the starter solenoid. I had the exact same thing happen when I took one of the wires off the starter solenoid and then hooked it up back up incorrectly. If I recall correctly, there is a wire that gives the coil full power during starting. If you connect it to the wrong starter solenoid terminal, you will get this exact problem. Joe

I think that high resale prices are good for all of us who own Corvairs. The higher the resale prices, the more likely Corvairs are to be restored, ceteris paribus. Add me to the group who thinks that fuel cap is repulsive; it looks completely out of place on that otherwise sharp looking Corvair. Joe

Thanks Mike. Is this a place you recommend? I will go ahead and make reservations if it is. I prefer nice places and the room rate is secondary to things like a nice breakfast, rooms with a refrigerator and microwave in case we want to eat in rather than going out. By the way, there was a sign of the impending failure, but I attributed it to something else. I noticed that my steering wheel was slightly off-center by about 15 degrees, and I thought it was because I put 100 pounds of tools into the trunk. I was thinking that the weight compressed the front springs sufficiently to change the centering of my steering wheel. I thought nothing of it... that
