Hi gang, Since I just have nothing to do these days, yeah right, the 6' shift rod on my Rampside decided to snap in half when shifting from 1st to 2nd. I managed to get it into 2nd and putt home, but now the scavenger hunt begins. Any one have a shift rod to sell? Doesn't seem like Clark's or California Corvairs has one. If not, I will have to look into some creating rep

Hi Everyone, Like you all, I have some more time on my hands than other times. Also, like most of you, I have been going through the garage and have found many parts I don't need anymore from various engines. Each part listed here I can send you a picture, Just chose not to include it all here to save space. Most of these parts came from running engines, so they might be grubby, bu

Hi Everyone, Adjusting rockers today, and tired of getting an oil bath, even with 1/3 valve covers. I got an old valve cover, and marked the rocker studs through an old head, drilled an inch hole in the cover, and put it in place. Easy access, with only a little oil spraying all over! dan

Hi Everyone, Hope you are doing well, safe and are healthy. I have been working from home, and getting some corvair projects done. I am working on a new motor for my rampside. It is in, and running. I was making some carb adjustments after the rockers, and I hard this odd buzzing around the coil. I put my listening tube in, and definitely hear buzzing at the high voltage connection to

Hi Everyone, I discovered the vacuum advance is just a big vacuum leak since the insides are gone. Went looking for a replacement for my LM 110 engine. Found a part at my FLAPS, but it is marked 370. I believe I need a 217. Not sure what a 370 is. Thanks! dan

Hi Everyone, Is there a simple way to test a fuel pump to see if it is leaking fuel out the bottom? Besides waiting for the crank case to fill up with fuel. Thanks, dan

Hi Everyone, Do most of you put a second temp switch in the driver's side head? Would they be the same temp setting? So much time and so little to do. Oh, wait, reverse that. Thanks dan

Hi Everyone, I am helping a friend put together a nothing special LM 110 engine (RG) block. He has a SOLID pulley on it. I am used to seeing a harmonic balancer. What is the general knowledge on one vs the other? Thanks! dan

Hi Everyone, I am rebuilding a 110 engine, and I am measuring the cylinder bores. I find that most are inside of 0.003 of the std size. I have one that is mostly 0.004. Should I replace that one? How strict is the 0.003 number? Thanks! dan

Just a little bragging. My rampside has the single on off switch for the wiper motor. Never right! I made a little board with a micro controller on it hooked to a potentiometer and a solid state relay. The pot has a button on the shaft, so you tap it for one time, then turn the knob for varying time delay. Short video for your enjoyment. (ignore the squeeky motor!) Thanks fo

Hi Everyone, The engine in my rampside failed a several months ago, I just got it out and torn down to find lifter pieces in the bottom of the block. 2 lifters had come apart. The end clips were gone, and the guts were out. These were new lifters from a moderately recent rebuild of the engine. Has anyone seen this before? What would make to lifters want to commit suicide like that?

follow up: I found an inexpensive regulator at Amazon.com, and the light is out now. New Rule #1: Dont run with the battery disconnected for very long, it seems to kill the regulator.

Hi everyone, I had to swap a head on my rampside motor from a dropped seat, it is all back together and running fine. I drove it a couple days and coming home from work, the gen light started to come on, but not very bright. When the engine is off, the light is full brightness. I found that when I got home, the battery cable had come off because some idiot (me) forgot to tighten it. I am

Hi All, I am still battling this one. I went ahead and got a new welded clutch disc from Clark's and it is oh, right on .310". I _can_ get this one to disengage, but to do so, I have to tighten ALL the slack out of the clutch cable so that the throw out bearing is hugging the pressure plate. This can't be a good idea, I don't think. If I measure the cable travel at the

Here are a couple pictures of my clutch/throw out bearing and pressure plate combination. The clutch disc is showing the pressure plate side. I bolted together the pressure plate/clutch to the flywheel. I measure about 1/2" from the top of the hub to the top of the fingers on the pressure plate. The hub diameter measures about 1.42" and the inside of the throw out bearing meas

When I put the combination on the press, I didn't really measure the depth. If I pump it down to 1/2" it releases nicely, if I go to 3/4" it binds up. At 3/4" the throw out bearing is being jammed onto the hub of the clutch disc and shoves the disc back against the fly wheel. Seems like I had too much throw on my clutch linkage, and I just instinctively pushed the pedal all

You're right, Tim, it was out easily and apart. I took off the transmission and dropped the pressure plate and flywheel. I reassembled the 3 on the bench, and went out and got an inexpensive press, I needed one anyway. It does release when I push far enough on the fingers. Took it all part and the disc measures 0.355" ! I bought it from California Corvairs, for spyders, truck

Hello all, In December, I dropped #5 intake valve seat in my Rampside. Several hundred dollars later from my favorite machine shop, I have all new seats, guides valves springs, etc. I had a few oil leaks to take care of so while she was out, I replaced push rod tube gaskets and the real main seal was leaking and got oil on the clutch, so I replaced that too. I replaced the clutch disc an

Hi Everyone, I am putting my engine back together after a dropped valve seat. I have the head back on and lashed the valves and I just realized that I forgot to put that shroud on that snaps under the cylinders. Do I take it apart and put it in? How much does it actually do? Thanks, dan

Never fails. Took the Rampside out for a long drive on Sunday, and smiled quietly to myself as to her performance. It was a nice day out and she was driving well. Monday morning on the way to work I had the heart-stopping drop in power and instant shuttering. You all know the feeling. I made to work and limped her home only to verify with my barrel camera that I dropped #5's intake valv

In an attempt get some "items" out of my garage, I have a Rampside Ramp that I'm not going to use. It is in pretty good shape, all the bolts are drilled and re-tapped. The latches are not included, though. I'm in Southern California if you are interested. /dan freeby

I have back tracked a bit, and my car drove on the freeway and didn't over heat about 3 months ago. The only thing I have done since then is reconnect the PCV. I had been just running a draft tube. Could that be adding to my overheat issue?
