"Convention registration includes registration for one adult. To register more one adult, select number of family members living at the same address who will be attending the convention with you. Only those who register will be able to p Forum: Corvair Center Forum 20 days ago VairKing Only a suggestion, but could a downloadable PDF or .XLS file be available? That way if one was going to travel a long distance where there might not be cell coverage they could have printed out their own hard copy. How many pages would it be? Forum: Corvair Center Forum 21 days ago VairKing Here is the previous thread, and Armen did a great job fabricating latch brackets and mounting them. Unfortunately the pictures are gone Forum: Corvair Center Forum 21 days ago VairKing I attached a screenshot of the latch bar I designed. If you want me to send you the DXF I can. I don't know how this would fit, drawing this up was as far as I got. I was going to bend it on the dotted line 90 degrees.
The safest thing you could do is not put your child in a Corvair or any old car for that matter. Like you, we like to take our kids in our old cars so how do we make it Forum: Corvair Center Forum 21 days ago VairKing Ted, I have considered this over and over. We have a 5 year old and now have 3 month old twins. There isn't really anything you can buy to do this, too much liability. I thought about laser cutting a piece of stainless to go all the way across the back seat area that has the latch hooks in it. Never did it.
I bought brand new lap belts from Seatbeltsplus.com and I just use those thro Forum: Corvair Center Forum 24 days ago VairKing Much cleaner look without the front plate IMO. Keep it up it looks great! Forum: Corvair Center Forum 25 days ago VairKing Lo Jack use to be pretty good, at least it was highly reviewed several years ago when I was researching this same subject (this was before air tags)
No idea on costs Forum: Corvair Center Forum 27 days ago VairKing I think it can stay open.
As I mentioned previously, now that CORSA owns this site, I think it should be on them to support CCF financially in the future. I think the funds we just raised to "jump start" the forum migration are wonderful, but the ongoing, reoccurring, normal business activity costs should be passed onto CORSA, IF CORSA is going to tout the benefits of "their&qu Forum: Corvair Center Forum 28 days ago VairKing Les this is my interpretation and I could be wrong. I think your adult son would need to be an independent CORSA member to participate in the autocross as a solo driver. I think he would also need his own convention registration for this as well, as he is an adult and would not fall under your CORSA "family" membership.
If he was just watching/riding along with the convention event Forum: Corvair Center Forum 28 days ago VairKing Not sure if this helps or not but the '64-65 fender mount mirror (for export reasons) was briefly discussed recently: Forum: Corvair Center Forum 28 days ago VairKing Since "Shortcut" seems to be a legit editing software, we will let this one stand, at least for now.
Personally I have had good luck with the simple to use iMovie on my iPad, but I know many on here are not using Apple products so that isn't too helpful.
@ Myrastomean: Welcome to CCF! Please start a new thread to introduce yourself and tell us about your Corvair! Forum: Corvair Center Forum 5 weeks ago VairKing Also to add, if you are hauling your Corvair on a trailer, the cost of either ferry service is going to be very high. The cost is fairly reasonable for a single car though.
We will be traveling through Chicago mid morning on that Thursday and late afternoon Sunday returning home so I don't expect the Chicago traffic to be much of a concern. Timing is everything.
In the past I have b Forum: Corvair Center Forum 5 weeks ago VairKing If you don't mind driving through Canada, I would recommend driving across Michigan and taking the Historic SS Badger car ferry across Lake Michigan from Ludington to Manitowak. One of the last steam powered ferries still in operation (and I can't imagine it will be running too many more years) There is also an express ferry that runs from Muskegon MI to Milwaukee but it isn't ne Forum: Corvair Center Forum 6 weeks ago VairKing Links with recommended products available to buy would be the most helpful. If I could order it from Amazon or similar that would be best for me. When I search these items on Google it seems they come from oil dealer networks mostly.
I have formulated my own gear lube/grease concoction and have use the 00 TSC stuff in the past but I am always interested in improving. We have a box on the b Forum: Corvair Center Forum 6 weeks ago VairKing I say setup some sort of a crowdfunding account. If the one Dean mentioned can do it with less fees that seems like a no brainer. I think this community could raise $1000 in a heartbeat.
Being that CCF is now owned and managed by CORSA, does CORSA have a budget put together for the site? If not, they should. And if they do, maybe the monies are already there. Forum: Corvair Center Forum 6 weeks ago VairKing For another restoration I bought SEM vinyl paint off of Amazon. It looks like they are discontinuing a lot of their colors Forum: Corvair Center Forum 6 weeks ago VairKing Try a few cycles of heating the bolts up with a torch (or inductive bolt heater from the thread a few days ago) and letting them cool completely, then repeat. Sometimes that will break up the corrosion between the alum and the bolts. It will also break up any loctite or sealer that might be on the bolts. Also sometimes tightening the bolts slightly then reverse can help them break loose. Forum: Corvair Center Forum 6 weeks ago VairKing I would do some testing first to make sure the solvents in the clear coat does not mess with your artwork paint. Good automotive clearcoats should be fine, but several very light coats may be the ticket. I don't have any experience with the clear wrap, but I bet it is several thousands of dollars have that applied.
Another thought, since this custom paint job will make the car priceless Forum: Corvair Center Forum 2 months ago VairKing So sorry to hear this, thoughts and prayers for his family. How sad. Forum: Corvair Center Forum 2 months ago VairKing That is a pretty unique build, I don't know that I have seen anyone use that transaxle in a conversion. Fiero 5 speed w/ 350 SBC. Bravo for that!
I wonder how much the car flexes under load with the sectioning that had to be done to fit the wide powertrain. I know my V6 Convertible has quite a bit of flex under power, I may attempt to add some tubing to stiffen it, haven't decided Forum: Corvair Center Forum 2 months ago VairKing I have welded nuts to studs before to get em out, that certainly works as well. I was just looking for an excuse for a cool new tool!
Since trucks have got to be so dang expensive I have decided to put some $$$$ into this rig to keep it going for a while, so I am planning on machining the manifolds flat and reinstalling with all new studs. I think 3 or 4 are broken at the moment, and the exh Forum: Corvair Center Forum 2 months ago VairKing Following, I need to replace the exhaust manifold studs (some broken) on my 2005 8.1L Suburban this summer and am thinking one of these might be really useful Forum: Corvair Center Forum 2 months ago VairKing Those files are a great reference for sure, but I don't think any of them will be able to be "converted" into anything more than they are. One could possibly trace all the line segments to isolate the important parts, but that is a lot of manual work. I would think it would be better to start from scratch or a 3D scan.
Here is what one of the dxf files look like opened in Autoc Forum: Corvair Center Forum 2 months ago VairKing Hopefully someone will step up who has already done the 3D modeling.
But...is there anyone in your area that does 3D scanning? Maybe you could drop a head off and have it scanned? I know now there are even apps you can put on your phone that will 3D scan and some of them are actually pretty accurate. Forum: Corvair Center Forum 2 months ago VairKing Thanks Craig! I don't have that parts manual but was able to download a copy (link below)
Thanks to those who have sent me pictures, it is very helpful.
And it looks like my buddy Caveman Pete has spare top frame that will hopefully give me what I need.
Corvair Parts Manual Download Forum: Corvair Center Forum 2 months ago VairKing I am trying to piece together a manual top frame for my 66 vert. I have a bare frame and a little bit of misc hardware but I am having a little trouble figuring out how it is installed and what all I am missing. I don’t see this covered in the 1965 assembly manual nor does Clark’s seem to have a diagram. There is a chance I might have the hardware but I don’t even know what it might look like. Forum: Corvair Center Forum 2 months ago VairKing Uploading from an Apple device is a headache here. Hopefully with our new software update coming up this will become a lot easier.
As has been noted, images must be resized and saved into the "files" section of your iPhone (not the picture section)
I use an app called Image Size to do both of these things, resize, and then save into the files directory. Then you can click attach Forum: Corvair Center Forum 2 months ago VairKing 855-388-4782
The direct number to the host hotel. The lady I talked to was one of the kindest and most helpful customer service people I have dealt with in recent times! She did have to search a little bit to find the Corsa group hold but she did find it and I booked at the promised rate. Forum: Corvair Center Forum 2 months ago VairKing After talking with Scott Seversin, he said there will be parking available for Corvairs not registered for the convention to be displayed near the Corsa car display.
While they won’t be eligible to win or vote, at least they can participate!
This is a great step for opening Corsa to the non dues paying Corvair community. Might even get a few new members! Forum: Corvair Center Forum 2 months ago VairKing I am too far away to help as well! If nobody is close you can maybe get an Uber ride to and from a parts store. Usually they will wait while you go get your part and then return you to the truck...I have done this once and it went smooth and the Uber was less than $50. Forum: Corvair Center Forum |
