You could probably go either way and be fine but if you have the choice I would go the 65 pg. Corvanatics sells a booklet on the PG's that is very reasonably priced and explains the differences.
Gary Moore can probably set you up with the booklet.

65 Monzav Forum: Corvair Center Forum 9 years ago 65Cvair Matt thanks for posting how the engine should idle when put in gear. Amazing how I can now do the same with a different tc installed, even though with my cam I will need to take it up just a bit.
Got the old tc out and confirmed that it is locked. Put little bits of metal into trans :-(. Cleaned out as best I could and will go on. The tc has all shafts that are supposed to turn locked up, Forum: Corvair Center Forum 9 years ago 65Cvair 1000 at idle and would drop down and still run when put in gear. Nothing has changed with idle, it acts just like when a clutch won't disengage.
Keith Hammett Forum: Corvair Center Forum 9 years ago 65Cvair I have spoken to Mike Dawson who agrees TC. Will know more when I get it apart. Time to see what's inside a TC. Will post when I find the problem. Forum: Corvair Center Forum 9 years ago 65Cvair Engine idle is right were it should be according to shop manual. Like I said every thing was good, pulled to a stop sign and did a rolling stop and on take off it started bucking. Once I got going it was fine until I slowed down to a near stop. Then it almost stalled. I think it is a locked TC.

Willard, Mo Forum: Corvair Center Forum 9 years ago 65Cvair Been awhile since I have been on here. Anyway here are the highlights of the car.
65 110 w/ pg
Recently (only 400 miles) on engine, diff and pg.
Did not replace the tc during rebuild, used good used one (?)
Symptoms
Car idles fine. When put in either D or R tires bark and engine dies.
Last time ran had a chugging at stop sign and once up to speed seamed fine, then when stopped engin Forum: Corvair Center Forum 9 years ago 65Cvair Rhys,
Hold the lever in the open position and drive the rail out. I used a plastic dead blow hammer on mine. Assembly is just a tad bit easier.

I used the duct seal on my LM vert's vents and liked it. Also I believe the package says it will not stain, and is compatible with plastics. Holds up great in the sun and weather.
Heating in the sun is a great plan.

'65 Monzavert Forum: Corvair Center Forum 9 years ago 65Cvair There is a snap on inspection access cover on the passenger side of the bell housing at the top. All other holes in the housing are for cooling. Many of the inspection covers were left off over the years. I have two corvairs one with and one without the cover, both run fine.

'65 Monzavert Forum: Corvair Center Forum 10 years ago 65Cvair Try DraftSight it is free and runs on windows 7. same as Acad with some commands being called something different but easy to figure out.
I have the latest Acad Mechanical and Inventor at work and use DraftSight at home.

Forgot to mention that I run files between the two with no problems using a flash drive. Forum: Corvair Center Forum 10 years ago 65Cvair I had a block that I invested time into cleaning up and getting ready to build, on getting ready to plastic gauge the crank and cam noticed that a bearing had spun on one side of the block. Decided that the block was made up of two different blocks. Makes me wonder how many are out there running that were not originally mated together.

PS block was scrapped for a different one Forum: Corvair Center Forum 10 years ago 65Cvair Layton I used Duct Seal, does not harden and is cheap at the big box store of your choice.

Willard, Mo Forum: Corvair Center Forum 10 years ago 65Cvair I did Craigs suggested method on my rampside going on 9 years now, and so far I have not had any problems. This is not to say that there is more or less wear than what should have been in that same time period on a "properly" set up unit.
No noise should be fine, noise stop and investigate.

Willard, Mo Forum: Corvair Center Forum 10 years ago 65Cvair I did both my rampside and convertible by drilling out the rubber and cutting the sleeves out. Then I used a hammer and socket to tap in the new bushings. Probably not the best way but worked for me.
Take your time and watch what is going on carefully so no damage to the arms are done.

Willard, Mo Forum: Corvair Center Forum 10 years ago 65Cvair Tony,
My rampside has a LM 164CID engine coupled to a LM PG (with FC front cover for cooling inlet and outlet) and the EM diff. I have put many miles on this combination and have had no problems (even with a ton of rock in the truck).
I rebuilt the PG myself using a video and the corvantics booklet. As Bob Helt mentioned the EM and LM PG are different, but mostly undocumented. The LM run Forum: Corvair Center Forum 10 years ago 65Cvair If you have a PG then the book/pamplet from Corvantics. They also have other books/pamplets for sale at a very reasonable cost.

On my rampside I reused the pistons (original maybe don't know), just checked for cracks and proper clearance's. Put new rings on and honed the jugs. Everything was good and still running more than 8 years now. I do have one cylinder with lower compression than the others, haven't bothered to check it out.
On my convertible went new jugs from clark's Forum: Corvair Center Forum 10 years ago 65Cvair I have a canvas top on mine. The look is so much nicer, istallation is the same. So your deciding factor is how much do you want to spend for a different look? As Craig said ease of man't is easier with the vinyl. Canvas will last longer.
My top came from "The Convertible Top Guys" fit was great.

'62 Rampside Forum: Corvair Center Forum 10 years ago 65Cvair As you can see in Cody's pics the coupe seat is wider. You will need to take a little off each end. If memory serves me right it was around an inch that I trimmed. Much easier to do if you have both a coupe and vert seat. I was lucky and had a vert seat that I could match up the rusted pieces and get the right length.
You could just measure the distance in the car with the arm rests i Forum: Corvair Center Forum 10 years ago 65Cvair If you are going to cut the coupe seat down to fit you need to cut both ends and put back together. That is how I did my seat for my '65 vert. Sorry I don't know where the pics went. It is doable, just take your time and have fun.

If you want a refill for anything you have to ask and they have it behind the counter, for those that don't ask / or know the difference you can pick the complete unit up out front. Another way they can make more money. Soon they will say that they weren't selling enough of the refills so people must not want them, therefor they can disco Forum: Corvair Center Forum 10 years ago 65Cvair Had a good time. Always good to see everyone from the groups around. Best part of the show is that Mike Dawson diagonsed my car and fixed it.
Here it is ran when parked, then on the night before going to the roundup car would not run. I decided to go ahead and take it to the roundup for everyone to see and maybe get some pointers on what was going on.

Willard, Mo. Forum: Corvair Center Forum 10 years ago 65Cvair I doubt that cm would have the dealer remove a welded nut. I will have to look to see if mine has nuts at the jack points rampy is at the other house. I will look in the morning. Forum: Corvair Center Forum 10 years ago 65Cvair Talk to Gary Moore of the KC group. He just had his rampside done. Forum: Corvair Center Forum 10 years ago 65Cvair No bolts in my rampside jack points. My guess is someone put those in there because their jack didn't raise the truck high enough. Forum: Corvair Center Forum 10 years ago 65Cvair Glad your cam and crank were not messed up due to the wrong flywheel bolts.
Tim - You are correct the engine was seized. Still PO said it ran when parked. Glad I was going for a parts car...
