I remember the Turbo-glide from the '60s....If someone brought one into the dealership having trouble, we couldn't repair it!! ...went to the parts department and got a cast iron PG replacement in a crate with all the mounts, adapters, etc. ...TG went away. ...A few years later, the Turbo- Hydramatic ['65] TH350 and TH400 came along. ...very good transmissions.

Mismatching the rod bearings works for clearance, but leaves a slight scraping ridge at the mating surface. ...not recommended! ...if you mic the rod journal, you can figure out the proper bearing needed and even have a machine shop polish a little more. At most, this can improve the clearance by about .0005.

When I build a engine, I want the rod bearing clearance to be: .0015 to .0025 ....001 is very tight ....003 is loose... OK for racing and using a high volume/ high pressure oil pump ...I keep a stock of GM Delco Moraine .001 O/S rod bearings to install in case I have a reading of .003

The right front engine shroud has a notch in it to clear these ribs. The notch means it is a 164 C.I. '64 engine.

Crankshaft and pistons reinstalled with new Clarks std. main and rod bearings ...plastigauge reads 1 1/2 to 2 thousands. Rings are Hastings moly std. ...baffles clipped on the bottom of the cylinders. PVC tubes hold the cylinders in place while assembling.

Went down to Kris' place in Pacific Beach to check on his engine....first, what a beautiful G.B.! ....took the left valve cover off, ..turned the engine at the crank bolt ...no rocking at the rocker arms. ...cam gear is toast! ...time to pull the engine! ...more to come.

If you top diff. vent is leaking, you can put a small piece of synthetic wool in the vent ...requires taking off the top cover. ...shouldn't be leaking on a late model.

It's been awhile since I've seen a '69 vert 140HP with A.I.R. ....all original! ..had to be a COPO..I delivered some rebuilt diff's ..sold some parts and picked up a few. .....weather was perfect, lots of Corvairs! ..lots of dogs and puppies. ...It is hard to believe this was our sixth "Rainbow" !

Jamison ....We just got one of our members '65 Corsa 140 HP vert back together so he could bring it to the "Rainbow" ....complete front suspension rebuild...blasted and powdercoated. This vert has taken "Best of show" at the Fan Belt Toss! ...white with a red interior.

If the piston comes down, the upper clevis [ the one that connects with the adjustment pin] on the low band can fall down...you can not get it back to where it should be from the bottom.

Check the head casting numbers ...should be 3813511 or 3813516 to be the 9 to 1 compression ratio ...you do have the wrong dist. ..should be 1110296 ...the cam could be incorect also.
