No 3.1 has never gone as fast as the 2.7s at the race track. Fuel Injection is your friend For sure ! Large Slant tube exhaust is a Corvair Folk Legend that has been proven not to help but hurt with a stock size exhaust Valve. Proven on the flow bench and on the race track. Read what Gene Berg has to say about the 94mm VW Jugs. Mike

When properly ported, using an accurate flow bench, mated with the proper cam,Carbs and exhaust the 140 heads will out perform any 110 or 95 heads. The Super Flow Flow Bench will tell you things other benches dont see accurately. Id put my last .060 140 motor up against any 110 headed motor, any RPM. Check Rick Norris's Mitty Video, spinning the rear tires off every slow turn and still pulling hard

All will be fine untill you encounter a cold rainy nite,Headlights and Heater on,wipers full blast, radio on and if you have an electric fuel pump? For the last hour the battery has been drained and your running on the Alternator. Shut it off for a fill up and the Battery will be dead. A race car is different. Electric fuel pump and ignition, maybe some electric gauges. Cars run off their Batter

I had a conversation with Ray Sedman a few years back, He has checked a lot of stock cams with his Cam Doctor and every one was different. Unless you degree the cam, stock or aftermarket, you will never be sure if the cam is what you think it is. Ive heard of many aftermarket cams being way off. Just something to consider. Mike

I found the stock pinion shaft was very strong. The Cidco was good but had fitment issues on really virgin mainshafts, the internal splines needed to be longer and they were a little tight. Mike

I put a late box,67 in both 64s of mine. On the street car i removed the steering shaft and welded a universal on the shaft to connect it to the box,you could just as easy weld a aftermarket collapsable section to the 64 shaft to mate it to the box. Mike

I have a USPS and UPS account. When im out i stock up on free boxes at the post office, Print my own labels and drop the package off. But I will say when i was in Shipping and Receiving at the dealer we lost alot of money on free shipping. I too request USPS flat rate from Clarks, cheaper and faster. Mike

It depends, I run the Braille 15lb battery in the racer rated at 424cca, no problems starting hot or cold. But running headlights, electric fuel pump,FI, big stereo you might need bigger. Everything runs off the Battery,if your pulling 50 amps and you only have a 35 amp alt that batterys gonna go dead . What ever battery you decide a battery tender might be in order. Mike

If you Bump the rear suspension on a Late model it toes in under Jounce. Keep that in mind. During accell it toes in and under hard braking it toes out. So you want the front and rear under accell to be perfectly straight so you do not have any scrub which equals faster top speed. Mike

about 6 years ago I had a little sponsorship from Metal Improvement company,a division of Pratt and Whitney at the time. They took two of my broken Ring and Pinions and did a close examination. The Engineer told me they both broke at a stress riser. At first they offered to reverse engineer and build an R&P with better material but after looking at them he said the metal was as good as anything th

I dont trust the cam cards any more from what ive seen. This makes figuring out what you have easy. Just remember when you advance the cam the intake valve gets closer to the piston. Not a problem on most street motors. And yes i would advance the cam atleast 2 degrees. Mike

one more thing, once you do the 4 spyder conversion, you will break the Ring and Pinion before you see the spyder gears fail. Trust me I know Mike

Im just going by what i found racing a stock carrier with a healthy V8. I did crack a stock one that had been spot faced. I never had a problem with any others. The 4 spyder carrier even poorly set up is pretty stout unit. Ive taken apart some that i couldnt believe had run well for years. Bob Anderson actually sent Dave Edsingers back to me and told me he couldnt spot face it as it was thin

If its for a v8, i would not spot face for the cup washer, It can get thin there. If you clean it up you can still get the washer in there. Mike
