It very well can cause that. With the seal loose, hot air from off the engine is drawn in by the fan and blown across the engine again, instead of cooler outside air, thus poor cooling and a temp light on.

P1 died on me after 9 months and I was 1,000 miles from home. I didn't have points with me, but luckily I had the little screws to hold the new points and condenser in. 36 years, less 9 months, never had points fail.

Taking your foot off the gas and hitting the brakes in the middle of the turn caused most of that. Generally, keep your foot in the gas & you'll do better. You found trailing throttle oversteer.

It looks like the upper spring pocket is breaking loose, which would cause the car to lower, and someone tried to compensate with homemade spacers.
