Thanks for the responses. I figured the drip at the secondaries was probable a needle valve. I'm not sure if the secondaries are actually secondaries. I believe that they are because of the linkage. I did not cover the throats and I did not check for adjustment screws. I will do that when I get back to them. The chokes were fully open and I tried to check all of the linkages to mak

My 65 Corsa 140hp was idling way too fast and I had a little time to tinker with it yesterday. Remember, I am new to Corvairs I disconnected the throttle and connecting linkage so I could set them individually. Even with the linkage disconnected I could not get the idle below 850 rpm and then it ran rough. The idle adjustment screws did not even touch the tang. I checked the timing and it was

The switch is on the bottom of the transmission on my car. I had time today to take a look. I found the fill hole on axle. I removed the fill plug and drained a small amount of gear oil. I replaced the plug and filled the transmission to the bottom of the fill hole. I checked the axle dip stick and it showed a little over fill. I will need to remember this. Any "new" old car is

Related question. What do you guys with the larger tires use for a spare? The oversize tire will not mount over the engine because of its size. Thanks, Pete

The gear oil did not come up to the bottom of the fill hole. Please excuse my ignorance but I am new to Corvairs. I don't want to over Fll but I sure don't want to damage the transmission. So, do I fill to the bottom of the fill hole on the transmission or go by what shows on axle dipstick? Thanks, Pete

I changed the backup light switch and inly hadabout a quarter gear oil on hand. I was going to pick up some more oil to finish topping off. I checked axel oil with the dip stick and it was a little over full, I did not know if there is a passage between the two gear boxes. Thanks, Pete

On the 4 speed is transmission fluid checked with dip stick or fill transmission to bottom of fill hole. The manual is not very clear on this. Thanks, Pete

Well, I finally bought the Corvair Corsa that I have been looking for. I am the fourth owner the car and have a lot of documentation from the two previous owners. I will post some pictures when I get it cleaned up. Nasty weather coming home. I do have a problem with the backup lights. I have traced the problem to the switch on the transmission. Since I am new to Corvairs I have not yet found t

Does anyone know if the Roanoke club is still active? I posted on their website and never heard from them. They are the closest club to me.

The magnets sound like a good idea. I was thinking of to covering entire cabin with zipper from the windshield to the rear of the front seats.

Has anyone here bought or had made a tonneau for their convertible? I had one for my TR6 and loved it. It used the boot snaps for the rear, but I don't know how I would fasten it in the front. I wouldn't want to drill any holes in the dash or doors. Any help and advice appreciated, Pete

What LED bulbs dd you use? I am thinking about getting LED's for my '51 chevy dash. Are they dimmable? My old Chevy has been converted to 12 volt.

Wow. Thanks for all of the great advice. I'll try to answer some of them. I consider myself a fair mechanic and I also have a friend who has owned and worked on Corvairs. The owner of the car now and previous owner are club members. He has a lot of history on the car. The pictures present the car very well. I hope to go look at the car soon. The buyers checklist has been very helpfu

I am really close to buying a 65 Corvair. Now I would like to know what to expect afterward. What are some common things I need to look out for? I plan on trying to get a shop manual and owner's manual so that should be a great help on regular maintenance. So, what are some problem areas and maintenance areas that are not in the book? The Corvair is completely new to me and I have no e

I will certainly take my time. At my age I am not looking for another project. My 51 is and will be a work in progress. I am looking for a car that is road worthy. I know that there will always be work to be done and I am ok with that.

24. new guy
First, a little about myself. I live in Southwest Virginia, I'm retired and I love old cars. At present my daily driver is a 1951 Chevy sport coupe. I use the car daily and have ventured out on a few 300 mile round trips. I do not drive it when there is snow or salt on the roads. I am considering buying a Corvair to share the daily driving duties. I would like to find a newer convertible.
