Im about to, after winter storing, to install a new soft top. I have done it once before some 12 to 15 years ago. At that time i was a bit anoyed because i could not find an instruction for an installation from scratch of a new top. The service manual only describes adjusting various problems with the top. Is there anything avaliable now ?

Interresting Tim Im retired from Volvo since a cople of years so i dont mind whatever you want to call it ! The two separate engines put together lead me into thinking about an old car called the DKW which later became Audi. They had a model called 3=6 because it was a rwo stroke engine and they figured that a twostroke three cyl fires as many times per revolution as does a 6 cyl engine so 3=6

Its now been working for about a week so its very hard to analyze where the noise was coming from. The capacitor is new and in my mind it can go from good to bad to dead but not the other way around. I agree that five minutes does not heat everything up but its enough to open the chokes fully. Trust me, when it was acting up you would not want to take it more than five minutes from home. Igniti

Took a little test trip down the block. It worked quite good but would not exceed 35 mph. Kept the trottle down and suddenly it felt like some thing "released" and m9mentarily it went up to 50 mph. That was not the end speed but our road is very rural and small so i did not want to go any higher. No valve rattling, nothing done with the filters (yet). Is this the end of the problems ?

So now i have done some testing and some thinking. I have only, today, tested with vair stationary. It starts good with a quite high idle but after a few minures when the chokes opens it goes down to a more normal 800 rpm. At this point i removed the tank cap but it changed nothing. I put my hand over the right carb and you can clearly hear the idle go down and there is quite a good vacuum. I

No turbo. Is it possible to clean the brass filters ? Originally the brass filters are the only gas filters, right ? I have a in line filter too so can i remove the brass and test without them ? Will check the fuel cap and petrol filter tomorrow.

I managed to make the engine run good around aug 6th. Then turned ny attention to the rear brakes. After rebuilding both rear and stopped the leak that suddenly appeared out of nowhere, heres my new problem : the misses was taking the vert out to do some reverse/ brake to adjust the brakes. She comes back after 5 minutes complaining about lack of power and valves (?) banging. I jumped in and took

I started with pulling all the plugs, cleaning and setting the gaps. Then while all plugs where out i decided to check the comptession. Not done since the 90's, and all seems good none under 150 and a few upwards 170-180. Installed the plugs again and now it seems it wants to start, running on at least 3 cylinders. After about 60 seconds of cranking it runs by itself and after some jerking

Again i turn to you for advice..... Now my vert will not start. It ran when i put it in winter storage last year but was dead when we picked it up this spring. After some trial and error i came to the conclusion that the ignition coil was dead. Bought a new and the engine started ok. Set the timing to 14 degrees. A few days later the misses strated the car just to move it a bit and it w

That will be next to be checked. A 140 should be 18° btdc, right ?

Sorry about the confusion with cc ! Have started to take the fuelsystem apart. First noticed that there is no gasoline smell from the dip stick or dip stick hole. Cant imagine there is odourless gas in the crankcase. Also the oil level is normal. Both carbs are on the bench and one is dismatled. Everything seems normal. The main jet says 50, so unless someone has drilled a bigger hole in it

Well, to be honest I did not. I checked under the engine to look for spill instead. If I had a leak to the cc via the diaphragm how much of the gas would have vaporated during the 5 months of hibernation ? I realize it is impossible to answer that question but my point is that I think most, if not all, gas would have left the cc during the resting period and although the new fill up of the cc wi

Picked up the Ramside from hibernation last night and drowe it home. Unfortionatle there was no self healing effect this year either. Damn! As you know I have a 140 (4 carbs) in it that abviously not is original and I think the entire engine is a mischmasch of parts. The latest discovery was that the distributor was from a turbo. Now the current problem is that that there is too much fuel to

Sorry about budging in on this thread but are you saying only some antennas have a removable mast ? All others have the lower mast section always sticking out ? Have I got this right ? What are the tell tales for a removable mast ?

Hey Dixie I live in Sweden (Gothenburg ) and have been a Corvairian since -89. Used to travel frequently to the US for my job so I brought in tons of stuff that way. However some parts are just too big to fit a suitcase, powerglide, sheet metal, etc so many years ago I found a company called Jetcarrier.com Its a Norwegian company that provides you with your personal adress in New Jersey so any U
