You mean they didn't have backup cameras to make it easier to park? Hahahhaha Forum: Corvair Center Forum 7 months ago Greggie Hi Everyone,
Here is a little fun challenge -
Challenge # 1 -
Can you find the Corvair in this picture?
Starting at the top left, as if reading a book, number the cars from 1 to 18. The perpendicular car on the second level from the top would be car number one, the first car on the left on the third level from the top would be car number two and so on. What number is the Corvair? Forum: Corvair Center Forum 8 months ago Greggie Thanks everyone for the tips!! I will give this a try. (yes the light switch or something is in the way) Forum: Corvair Center Forum 8 months ago Greggie How do I get to the left turn signal bulb in the instrument cluster? I pushed myself on the floor and when I look up I can see the light blue wire going into the bulb socket, but with my huge hands there is no way in the world I am getting to it. I don't think anyones hands can get at it. How do I access it to change the bulb? This is on a 63 Monza 900. Thanks!! Forum: Corvair Center Forum 8 months ago Greggie Interesting that the black and white photo and the "green" pic posted by AZDAVE show the caning on the drivers side, but it wasn't there when I was at the museum. I guess it was obviously replaced.
SPECTRE mentioned that the museum had a LM. They still do, but it is now part of the Behind The Scenes tour that they offer for $10 extra. They have another bunch of cars in a large g Forum: Corvair Center Forum 8 months ago Greggie Hi American Mel,
It was cool to see, a bit odd with the split roof line and rectangular tail lights, but cool nonetheless. It makes sense though, knowing he was trying to make it limo like. I didn't get a pic of it, but the roof above the rear seat was completely missing the headliner and any sort of padding or cardboard. Forum: Corvair Center Forum 8 months ago Greggie I went to the AACA Museum in Hershey, PA on August 26, 2021 and they had a 64 Corvair "Limo" by Raymond Loewy. Very unusual and not fully to my liking, but figured I would share the pictures I took. The museum also provided an info panel and the original New York State DMV registration renewal with VIN that expired in 1967.
It was hard to get pics of the back of the car because it wa Forum: Corvair Center Forum 9 months ago Greggie FINALLY!!!! first time getting her out on the road!!! Took the kids to run some errands. They look so miserable, they were getting annoyed at me for having to take a picture at every store, but when they are 40, they will look back and treasure it, I hope. After the first stop, my daughter, got back in the car and as she is opening the window she says "WOW, COOL, I CAN OPEN THE WINDOWS WI Forum: Corvair Center Forum 9 months ago Greggie Hi David,
I just replied to your PM. Sorry for the delay, between work and the kids, I haven't been able to log on for a few days. Forum: Corvair Center Forum 9 months ago Greggie Hi David,
Thanks for the breakfast invite, but I didn't see it in time. I didn't find a mechanic yet. This week I am going to order the service manual, assembly manual and other info along with some new gaskets for the value covers and oil pan from Clarks and see if I can tackle the leaks on my own. At the same time I want to educate myself on the burning oil problem first. I think Forum: Corvair Center Forum 9 months ago Greggie Hi UnauthorizedServiceTech,
I bought my Corvair online from
They are in Staunton, IL. Congrats on the new house. I wish mine started right up. If it sits for even a week, it take a lot of work to get it started. Thank you for the offer to help, but I fully understand about the house obligations. It never ends. Forum: Corvair Center Forum 9 months ago Greggie Thank you everyone for the leads. I will look into these options. I appreciate the quick responses. Forum: Corvair Center Forum 9 months ago Greggie Hi Everyone,
Can anyone recommend a Corvair mechanic in New Jersey to do engine work, (not cosmetic body work). I have a '63 burning and leaking oil and I don't have the skills to fix this on my own.
Thank you for any help you can provide. Forum: Corvair Center Forum 11 months ago Greggie Did anyone else notice the Corvair on page 132 in the current issue of Hagerty Drivers Club magazine? The May/June issue. Just thought I would share. Forum: Corvair Center Forum 1 year ago Greggie Hi RobertC,
From what I learned in the earlier posts in this thread is that the early model Corvairs did not use cap nuts, but just a retainer that the emblem post went through, thats why I used the prying off method. You are right, though, if it had cap nuts, prying off would definitely break the emblem and probably make a minor dent in the car if you got too aggressive with it. Forum: Corvair Center Forum 1 year ago Greggie So I got the emblems off. I got a bit creative, I used a punch held perpendicular to the flags emblem posts and a hammer to hit the punch down toward the ground from under the trunk lid to get it started. Then as shown in the picture I used a wood shim and the claw of a hammer to wiggle it up and out. For the fender emblems I used the wood shim on both sides of the cross to slowly walk it out Forum: Corvair Center Forum 1 year ago Greggie Thanks Al, no need to apologize. I am grateful for you taking the time to reply to my post. Forum: Corvair Center Forum 1 year ago Greggie Hi Guys,
Thank you for the quick tips.
Sorry I didn't mention my car's year. I was figuring since my signature line had the year I didn't need to mention it again in the post, but I will mention it going forward. On the underside of the rear lid, see picture, I have this, I don't see cap nuts, do I just use a needle nose pliers and squeeze and try to pry up from the outsid Forum: Corvair Center Forum 1 year ago Greggie Hi All,
Can anyone direct me to an online video or at least photos of how to remove and install the front fender and rear lid engine emblems? Thanks!! Forum: Corvair Center Forum 1 year ago Greggie Hi Sirsparkalot. I'm glad you like the color, I don't really care for it. It is a purple metallic, but the online pics I saw of it looked black. The sides look a bit brown or black, it all depends on how the sun is hitting the paint. It's not that chameleon paint that changes all different colors when you drive by, a popular 90's thing to do. Yes the car is straight, I go Forum: Corvair Center Forum 1 year ago Greggie Thanks Scottymac. Those Cosmic wheels are nice. I like them better than mine, but I like mine better than what was considered original on the Corvair. Forum: Corvair Center Forum 1 year ago Greggie Thanks everyone for the tips with the taillights. I will have to tinker more with them, but hopefully can get it working.
Vairboy - that would be awesome if I could get Springsteen in the car. He does pop up unannounced around town from time to time. He doesn't live that far away, just a few towns over from Freehold. Forum: Corvair Center Forum 1 year ago Greggie Scottymac, It says Nissan on one of the three black areas on the outer edge of the rim. You will probably have to zoom in to read it. Not sure if its Nissan, the car brand, or something completely else, but they were on the car when I bought it. Forum: Corvair Center Forum 1 year ago Greggie Hi Everyone,
Thanks for the warm welcomes!! I am in Freehold, New Jersey. I added it to my signature. Thanks for the heads up. I would love to help as much as I can, hopefully I can more helpful as I learn to pass it on the next newbie. I am sure I will have a lot of questions. Right now I am battling the darn taillights, can't get them to work, only the passenger side tail light goe Forum: Corvair Center Forum 1 year ago Greggie 30.
