Thanks for the help Ken, I did not start the car while I placed it in what I assumed to be 4th gear. So I do not know for sure. The good thing is the transmission is out of the car so it is able to be disassembled to check mainshaft/clutch gear needle bearings and associated areas on the clutch gear and mainshaft for damage. As far as I'm aware from the previous owner who bought, it h

I think your on to something. I do not believe that the bell housing was ever dialed in. The motor was replaced two owners ago in 2008 i believe and hasn't gone in 4th gear since. So that is likely the culprit along with other issues. The transmission is out of the car now and all the gears look fine, I will further inspect the input gear needle bearing, main shaft, and pilot bushings.

Thanks for the info Joel! It did go into 4th when not running. I'll check the interlocks on the shift shafts. The shift forks do seem worn and could use replacing so I'll add that to the list of things to replace. Eddie

Hi everyone looking to get some help on my 66 LM 4 speed on my Crown Mid V8 Corvair The problem: It will occasionally pop out of 3 and will NOT go into 4th gear. All other gears are fine. I have removed the transmission and attached a video of the inside. The synchro’s look fine, if not a little worn. Honestly, I’m not quite sure what’s wrong with it everything looks to be in working order.

Hey everyone I have been lucky enough to pick up this 66 Crown Corvair conversion that has had 7 previous owners. I was curious if any previous owners were on this forum or if anyone knows the car and has anymore info about its history (see photo of attached previous owners list). Some info about the car. Originally a 66 Corvair Corsa. It has a 327 Small Block added in 2001. The engine is ru

Hope this is allowed and okay with all the owners. Just thought Id share some photos of the cool Corvairs at the Alameda swap meet. If any of the owners of the cars want the picture send me a PM and I can email them to you. Those of you Corvair owners I did not get to meet at the meet I look forward to meeting you next time. Sorry for Quality I over compressed the images.

Thanks for the clarification @nirvairna The engine is not rotating when I turn the key to start the car. There is only a grinding and whining noise. I checked and the engine does spin by hand but not when I turn the key to start.

05/05/21 Update: Looks like this car was loved at one point. Along with the 110 block to 140 head conversion, dual exhaust the car also has a finned oil pan (pictured), newer bushings/suspension in the front still in good shape (pictured), and Urethane rear suspension bits (not shown in pictures). Im excited to see what other goodies this car has. What other upgrades should I look out for?

@Dave Hope to see you around town! Not sure how long it will be to get the 4door running but I'll be around in the coupe. @Mike Nice, It turned out great! more inspiration to try to fix the rust if its not too extensive anywhere else. It seems that it is a little Frakenstien indeed, making it a little more interesting and gives me the liberty to not keep it all original. -Eddie

Thanks Seth, that's really helpful advice ill have to go through that process. I agree with you Dan the zip ties are an eye sore that will hopefully be gone soon as I re-route the fuel filter + hoses. -Eddie

@ Persh Nice repair! I'll need to lift up and inspect the car more closely for any more rust as @wittsend suggested, but I might try my had at the windshield cowl rust repair if nothing els for some experience. @Wittsend It actually came with front and rear windshields. They were just not fixed on and I did not want them cracking or flying off during transport, but i have them. Good i

Questions for everyone. Did I miss anything on the body tag/ Engine stamp? What are your thought on engine? Is it a 110 with 4 carb conversion? Is it an original 140? (I read that I might need to take pictures of the numbers on the head covers to help verify) As far as windshield rust, I read that clarks sell repro pieces to weld in. Ive heard/read that they are not an identical fit. An

Hi Everyone, Recently picked up a 66 Corvair Monza 4 door for $500! Which was a steal in my mind but feel free to let me know your thoughts. Here's a quick history of the car as I know it. Previous owner purchased the car from the original owner who drove the car in Oregon until the early 2000s where it sat until the previous owner picked it up as a project two years ago. Previous ow

@ Joel, I just checked the bushings and I definitely should replace all of them soon, currently they are dried and cracked so that should help. Not the worst I've seen be in need of replacing. Im planning on going with urethane bushings. I saw Corvair underground has them, any other suggestions or strong feeling towards type/supplier? Thanks, Eddie

Heres a picture of the engine set up as requested @Doug. Im planning on putting a metal fuel filter inline with steel or PTFE hose. Im open to suggestions re-placement and types of filter/hoses. I ended up going with the cheapest and fastest option which was a holley 390cfm center mount I had gotten used and rebuilt myself for $150. The filter and lines are secure now as not to bump or hit th

UPDATE:to the 66 coupe Thanks for the advise everyone! I still have some fine tuning and work to do and will be going through the suggestions to get the Corvair dialed in. Lots of good advice received so thanks again. After a long wait the 66 is running well enough that I was able to take it out for a prolonged ride, enjoy, and take some pictures. It was a blast to enjoy and I was pleasant

Great thanks Jim for all the great info! I will need to do a leak down test esp for cylinder 2 which compression is at 100, and I'll also retest the compression after some more use hopefully it can "come in". As for the plastic filter and rubber hose they are as they appear in the picture, I replaced the hoses with a thicker gauge so it would be stiffer and not bob around as mu
