![]() Corvair Center Results 1 - 30 of 43 2 years ago 61SuperMonza I'm not a fan of engine swaps in our cars other than a V8/V6 conversions. I have a Subaru that I've owned since new. It's a good winter car but the engine(2.5) and 5spd truly sucks. Very little power and torque and is prown to blowing head gaskets and leaks oil like a no car I've ever owned. The other thing is a flat 4 sounds horrible. In a ultravan it would be totally gutless Forum: Corvair Center Forum 2 years ago 61SuperMonza I love a car with a great paint job. It really sets a car apart from the rest. If it's a DD than no but if it's a summer ride thsn go for it. Taking a Corvair to this level or any collector car for that matter will be costly and needs to be done out of desire not the potential to recoup all your money. I did all my own paint and body work myself and I still had close to 3 grand in it fo Forum: Corvair Center Forum 2 years ago 61SuperMonza Good for the seller. That is a truly impressive number. I hope the buyer has it sorted and installed on a car. It's a very cool set up. It should be enjoyed and installed.
YMO Forum: Corvair Center Forum 2 years ago 61SuperMonza I'm 49 years old. I have been playing with Corvairs since I was 14. In that time I have owned 4 Corvairs, 3 LM and 1 EM. My 61 Monza coupe is my pride and joy. Forum: Corvair Center Forum 2 years ago 61SuperMonza There is no question in my mind. 4spd all the way. I have owned 2 LM with PG and they were great daily drivers but it always felt like I was leaving alot on the table.
My dad always told me the 4spd was the only way to go in a Corvair and he was so right. The character of the car is completely different with a manual. A sport coupe of small displacement needs a manual.I feel much more connected Forum: Corvair Center Forum 2 years ago 61SuperMonza Sorry to hear that
I live in Alaska so I have purchased many parts from Lon. I didn't know the man but I was able to complete several projects with parts from the Underground. Thanks Lon Forum: Corvair Center Forum 2 years ago 61SuperMonza With a EM I would look for scoops like the Bill Thomas car. I have always thought they looked great. The problem is you never see them.
They give the car a real performance look. I would love a pair for my 61. Forum: Corvair Center Forum 2 years ago 61SuperMonza I agree,if money isn't an issue replace the bearing and go all out and install a Nashfan. I want one as well.
NORM Forum: Corvair Center Forum 2 years ago 61SuperMonza Thanks for the info fellas. It sounds like a nice setup. With that said, what model number Stromberg did you use. I assume it would be one for a small displacement V8.
If anyone has the carb # let me know.
Thanks,
NORM Forum: Corvair Center Forum 2 years ago 61SuperMonza As Mel said it's a cool period piece. It has more going for it as a conversation piece.
Dad had one on his 61 Monza coupe with dual trombone exhaust. He loved the way it sounded but was only noticable at hwy speeds. He would get round 4 lbs boost. Forum: Corvair Center Forum 2 years ago 61SuperMonza Okay I stand corrected. The seats in your 63 look great. Back seat is very cool idea.
That shifter base is very sexy. Never seen one like it Forum: Corvair Center Forum 2 years ago 61SuperMonza I was hoping to get impressions from owners who had run this setup.
I have looked for info on the subject and found alot. It seems to be a nice setup.
I didn't find any actual driving impressions. Forum: Corvair Center Forum 2 years ago 61SuperMonza I would like to install a Stromberg WW on my turbo motor. I know there are other options but I am going for a more classic look and I have heard this is a very nice setup when dialed in. What are your thoughts.
I do plan to run water/meth injection and a wastegate. Forum: Corvair Center Forum 2 years ago 61SuperMonza I think it's harder to find aftermarket or OEM replacements that fit the character of the car. I feel that low back seats are the way to go for an EM.
For me anything goes for a LM. High or low back. I have stock buckets in the Monza. Forum: Corvair Center Forum 2 years ago 61SuperMonza That's good stuff. Up here in AK we do see alot of Porsche's of all years and types.
This past summer a guy in a beautiful 912 decided he was going to blow my doors off. What a great feeling he must of had until I decided to take him seriously.
I left him like he was standing still. I could tell by the look on his face that he wasn't happy.
I on the other hand couldn't co Forum: Corvair Center Forum 2 years ago 61SuperMonza That car is going to require alot of rust repair. As mentioned it may be salvageable but the only way to know for sure would be to have the car media blasted and that's time and money to spend that may be wasted depending on what is found. I would check out the other cars you have access to and use the best one from that group. I see you have plans for a big engine build. Personally I would Forum: Corvair Center Forum 2 years ago 61SuperMonza 21. Re: New member Thanks for the comments guys,
I wanted my build to represent what a enthusiast would have done to there Monza over the course of a few years of ownership. I went with the Spyder motor because I love turbo power. I wasn't trying to build a Spyder clone.
I wanted a hot rod Monza and that is what I got. I need to set up a YouTube account so you all can hear this puppy. It sounds like a beast Forum: Corvair Center Forum 2 years ago 61SuperMonza 22. Re: Barn Find! ![]() That is a great find. I always hear stories of finds like that but have never had the pleasure of finding one myself. I'm sure alot of that is living in Alaska. I haven't seen a Corvair on the street in years. Other than my own.
As a side note, I used to spend part of my summers in the San Juans. My aunt and uncle had a place on Center Is.
Loved my time there. Forum: Corvair Center Forum 2 years ago 61SuperMonza 25. Re: New member Thanks Stig,
There's alot of hard work and love in that car.
I enjoy sharing our cars.] Forum: Corvair Center Forum 2 years ago 61SuperMonza 26. Re: New member Thanks Matt,
I have some carb upgrades to discuss. Need to make a few extra bucks first. Forum: Corvair Center Forum 2 years ago 61SuperMonza 27. Re: New member I thought I would take the time to say how much I enjoy CCF. I have been looking in on the topics for awhile and have got some great info. There's alot of knowledge and talent here.
I have been playing with Corvairs since I was 14. That car was a 65 Corsa turbo coupe. In total I've had 4 Corvairs,3 LM and 1 EM.
The 61 is the first car I have fully restored. It was a great project for Forum: Corvair Center Forum 2 years ago 61SuperMonza Truly outstanding cars. They are both gold standards for 64 Spyder Convertible. My father had 64 Spyder convertible and that car is what sparked my interest in Corvairs.

I guess I won't be posting many pictures. They do seem to be formatted correctly on my mobile device. Forum: Corvair Center Forum 2 years ago 61SuperMonza 30. Re: New member Here's another pic.
