Ken That is why I ask where to start. With my .105" over bore and using 1986 Cavalier .040 over pistons. This gives you a 3.543" bore. Yep a 2.85L motor. I would like a place to start. I have just finished gaping a set of rings with a .020" end gap. Hope this will work. I'll let you know. Thanks

Is it me or has group 51R battery's gone coo-coo. Autozone wants $203 for their display line. So I went online and guess what I found. Autozone also has the cheapest battery. It is their group 51R-E the E is for Econo and it goes for $69.99 with $22 core charge. I went to two different Autozone and now I have two new battery's. Yes it is a little smaller at 410 CCA. But worked great in

Hi All Book says .013" -.025" for top two rings. I would like to know what you gap them to. Closer to .013 or closer to .025? This motor I am building is .105" over bored and will be 8.75:1 compression. Will this make a difference in the end gap? Oil rings .015" to .055". Do you gap all three or jut the top and bottom ones? And closer to which end of spec? Thank

Possible Linkage problem From this discussion I will now include 2 - 9/16 split lock washers and a vial 0.5ml of Loctite 27105 Permanent with all orders of my kits from now on. I have a 3813516 head that looks Very NOS. Some of the 9/16 head nut locations look like they never had a nut tighten down. I'll get some pics if you are interested. Let it go for $150 because I can not prove it is NOS. Actully I have two but one has pitting in the combustion chamber.

Hi Every one in Corvair Land It has been reported to me by Archibald Evans and Starr Cooke that I am dead. Looks like I died some time in November last year. I don't feel dead because my back still hurts. So I'm alive and still making my Full Bearing Throttle Linkage and other Corvair items. Just release the new 2022 catalog with a few new parts in it. So spread the word that I

Hi Frank Duval just brought up the fact that I did a typo on my post about the thread size. Thread size on the head nuts is 3/8-24 not 3/8-18. Roger

Hi All Well I have two new products for your consideration. First is a set of 12 head nuts. I have used these on my latest build and they work great. These nuts have a wide flat bottom 3/4” OD and are 3/8-18 thread with 9/16 hex and Chrome plated. These nuts will totally cover the threads of the head stud as shown in the first picture lower left. The nut on the bolt lower right is a demo of

Short story about the LSM spring tester. My brother was looking at the Jegs site and they had a sale on the tester, so my brother thought. The picture showed the complete tester but the sale was only for the indicator dial and it's mounting brackets. I ended up buying the tester itself. I like the LSM because once you have the spring set to length you have both hands free to write things

Hi All I have been watching all the threads about valve springs and I have a question. First I am running an Isky 280 cam with 1.5:1 rockers for a lift of .440” at the valve steam. I have a new set of Clark’s valve spring and a new set of Isky 4005 springs. Install height is 1.656". I test them in my spring test and this is what I got. Isky has round damper springs and Clark’s has f
