Following up with some cost data and MPG data.

Gas used in 876 miles = 22.197 gal. MPG = 39.46479

Gas cost = $75.09 or $3.3839 per gallon (Hey, I live in California)

Gas cost per mile = $.0857


Electric miles = 1728

KW used for 1728 miles @ 33/100 miles = 570.4 KW

Cost under current EV rate plan for 1728 miles = $89.02

Cost per electric mile = $.05152

Average fuel cost for 2604 miles = ($89.02 + $75.09) = $164.11

Average total fuel cost/mile for 2604 = $.063

Our driving pattern relies mostly on electricity and so far we've driven 574 miles and used 2.0 gallons of gas, i.e. 287 MPG. It's hard to complain about that.

A full battery charge costs about $1 and that takes us 40+ miles; 2.5 cents/mile.

Like a Corvair, the car takes some explaining. I ran into my second idiot who proclaimed "40-mile range is stupid, Tesla's get like 300-400 miles"

Both those 20-something young men don't have real jobs and don't commute to work. One drives an old Lexus SUV his Dad gave him earlier this year.

yeah - but you have unlimited miles without charging, if needed. Drive through the boonies or across the desert, Tesla might or might not have chargers.

In the past 2 years, the Tesla charging network has finally covered most areas. The car is smart enough that it will tell you if you are headed off to a place where it will not be able to get back. (I know, kinda weird). I do not have an electric car, but our Solar Charging panels, now that they are paid for, could really keep the cost down. They continue to keep our home electric costs low.

I am not trying to convert anyone! Just reporting the facts.

My "no money down" lease was straight up and required me to pay sales tax on rebates, registration, other state required expenses plus the first month's lease payment. $1825 total. Three years, total 36000 miles and $.25 per mile for excess miles lease payment is $254.33 per month.

Are you going to buy it at the end of the lease? What's the expected "residual value"?

Residual is something like $16,700. Don''t know if I will buy it or not.

I suspect the residual is higher than what the actual market value of the car will be at lease end. And there will be more choices in new cars at the lease end than there is now.
