The aluminum 1960-63 steering boxes are identical in every way.
Externally and internally. The first changes began in 1964.

No, there was an early 60 design with one ball bearing guide that was superseded to the design used for the remainder of production with two ball bearing guides.

Crawford is 100% correct. That is the ‘nut’ difference.

I have 3 aluminum case box's. Two are in great condition. Lash screws are high in their adjustment indicating little wear. Where are you located? Will you be at the Toss in Palm Springs?

I'm in Texas. I won't be at the Toss.
Price?

It would be fun to come but I hate driving long distances. Mainly because I can't stay awake. I bought a Rampside and a trailer load of parts yesterday and not one steering box! No RR blocks either.
I did get a couple of transverse leaves and one set of '64 rear lower control arms. They need to go on the wagon. At least a dozen starters. Wasn't someone talking about starters? One is a '60. Spent about 4 hours loading everything between downpours. It was about 3 hours there and 4 hours back. I couldn't get any tongue weight on the trailer.

Check with Corvair Ranch (Gettysburg PA) and see what they want for steering boxes , good used and or rebuilt. Good to know what the easy way wll cost, and while you take the time on the decision, one may turn up locally (or not).
