WTB: RZ code block or engine Still Looking 2/19/2019!!
Posted by: scottymac ()
Date: October 05, 2018 02:34PM

Wanted to Buy
Looking for a 1966 140hp manual trans air conditioned block or engine. Following the recent sale and discussion on the value of the RR Corsa 140 a/c block, not sure I have the resources for an RZ block, but thought I would see what's available. I'm located in Indiana, willing to travel for the right piece, have an engine about ready to go together, so would prefer a bare block, but would consider an engine or short block if the price is reasonable.

It’s only the RR block for Corsas that folks believe they have won the lottery with.

Does your universal block have the casting for the FC oil fill tube?

I have the block that you desire, however, it is still in a car.. or to better describe it, it is a parts only car. Way too much rust to even consider restoring. It is a 1966 Monza air conditioned convertible, with tinted glass. I don't know what the diff is, but when you buy the car, drag it out of my backyard, and onto your trailer, you can then check the differential. The car sits on 4 20+ year old tires, that have lost their air. The top frame is there, but the covering is missing. When I bought it, it had just been rescued from the ultimate fate of being crushed at the salvage yard. It was badly rusted then, and the 20+ years that I have owned it, have added to that rust. I had always hoped to find a donor body, but never came across one. Now, I have lost all interest in restoring anything other than my aged body. If my body needs any restoration, I am all for it. Let me know if you have any interest in it. It has a NJ title, if I can find it, otherwise you get what you see, plus a bill of sale. Thanks Junkman in Woodstock CT

An RZ engine has been offered near the east coast, not quite a thousand miles away, in a car that's been sitting outside for 20+ years. Retrieval possible in the spring. Anyone else have an RZ block or engine?

There is currently a T0528RZ block on flea bay and it is on the left coast BUT, and this is a big BUT, it may not be matched halves as it has a VIN on the left side.
Take notice of the way the finish on the block halves do NOT match.
It is advertised as "Corvair 66 Engine Block T0528RZ 1966 140 HP degreased, 8 late model case bolts" and has an asking price of $250.00 plus $60.00 shipping.

Flea bay seller can be wrong. RZ's were used in 66 thru 68. So it could be a 68 block.

My info can from Corsa Tech Guide Volume I Code Numbers Section.

That block is from a '68. In '68 when the vin number was added they moved the date/engine code to the right side and put the vin number in the old spot on the left. The top shroud also got a longer notch or window so that you could see both sets of characters. That block would be from the 14,174th '68 Corvair. As for the color of the metal being different from one side to the other I think the right side was probably lying face down somewhere and picked up that stain. If you look away from the parting line to the right the metal looks the same as the left side.

Sorry, hadn't noticed your question before tonight. Not sure there's anything especially valuable, just would be the correct code for the engine that belongs in the car. I bought my car out of a junkyard with no drive train at all, so was pieced together with a parts car I had on hand. Still looking!
