Please post a picture of the ones you are talking about so those who don't know will understand which style and what they look like.

How many different car headers are out there?
Which Headers do you consider to be the best car headers and why?

I have Clarks Ultimate and like them, but I haven't experienced any others for comparison. They are fairly loud and hang relatively low, but I like the look.

Personally, the best car headers are the ones on other people's cars. That's just me though. My dad put glass packs on our 68 140 on the stock logs and that was way too loud for me, and I do like to use the heat upon occasion here in Oregon.

Gregory,

There are headers and people who have both, headers with lower tin for heat.

This is why I'm doing this thread. To hopefully get more feed back and PICTURES of the different headers for our Corvair cars...

If I was making headers I like these ALOT, Ken Hand posted these back several months ago.

Yeah, they look equal length as well. Tom K. had an article in one of the tech guides on creating equal length headers. Back on topic, I have some of the "Thunderbird" or "JC Whitney" headers on mine. They aren't equal length and not the best but they work and don't hang really low. I don't have any pics right now.

Duane CartWright / EFI is setting up for Mandrel Bent single piece / 19" length headers... Tube ID is not known by me, at this time..

If you haven't seen the Corvair news lately, out of the 18 Corvairs that raced at VIR a week ago, the fastest 2 Corvairs on the track had stock exhaust stacks and stock manifolds on them.

You didn't get my point. Point being is headers are not the answer all for exhaust.

If you are concerned about heat ceramic coating does a good job of keeping the heat in the exhaust.

Tony!

As I wrote a few years ago when this was asked...

Headers are like our camshafts...

So few are even making them that there is no "Best"

It depends on your vehicle's height.... your engine build and your USE [ race / street / cross country driving...

The only difinitive "Best for YOU in this particular vehicle" is one developed on an engine dyno made to produce what you want [ HP or Torque ] at the RPM you will be running at...

Not headers, but my exhaust... something a little different.

Interesting exhaust pipe.... why not a larger collector and muffler?

The muffler is an old dynamax one that I had laying around. I just powdercoated it. The inlet/outlet are 2.5". I used the stock logs on a stock 80hp so i didnt see a need to make larger collectors, but i could. I just wanted to see if I could make an "equal length-ish" exhaust system for it. If I ever build something more powerful, I would make the collectors larger... maybe even adapt it to some tubular headers. It sounds good, but its not super loud. Just has a nice hum.

With a Stock exhaust Valve a properly ported exhaust will flow as good or better than a 1 1/2 slant tube. The exhaust is going to get out so choose wisely on your Header diameter and Length to promote scavanging. Pay attention to the intake log, thats where the biggest restriction is. Big Bore carbs dont do much if you dont fix the Log, Raise the ceiling and extend the log past the outer ports so they get fed from both sides like the center port. Watch Rick Norris last Mitty Video and watch as he spinning the tires off the Turns and leaving Michael LeVeque to collect his tire smoke !!! And His heads are the prototypes,We found even more on the 2nd ones ! Mike

Hey Mike, I’m guessing to get that port and ceiling work done the log/carb mounting pads would need to be sawed off then welded back on? Sorry if that doesn’t sound right, I’m just trying to picture it in my head.
