For sale - Shift knobs - For your consideration!

forsale

A few years ago, when I was building my current Autocross Corvair, I was looking for a shift ball for it. The small OEM Corvair ball was not in the running. Someone on Virtual Vairs was making nice shift balls from half a dozen standard (not vintage) pool balls. They were a little over 2" in diameter. The perfect size, unless you have tiny hands. They had a selection of a few numbers (the Cue ball and the 8 ball were not available.) I picked one, installed it and never looked back. My new (to me) 66 needed a knob, so I swiped the nice leather one off of my project car. So then I thought, why not pick-up a set of pool balls and use my Bridgeport mill in my garage to prep them. So I did. Milling, drilling and tapping the threads (5/16-18 for the stock Corvair shifter). It was a fun exercise! Anyway, if you want one of these, let me know. They will be available at the Fan Belt Toss in Palm Springs. They come with a 5/16 pal nut to lock them in rotation. (see Photo) I only want $9 for the finished piece, so shipping ($7?) is kind of expensive, relatively. These make great shift balls! Shipping would be free if added onto an ignition wire or distributor order (grin). Or drop by at the Fan Belt Toss and choose the number you want. (Cue ball and 8 ball are still not available) Questions?

Hey Seth...you're in San Jose right? I'd be willing to pick up one of those from you via Mel over at Vairmart or maybe catch you at the next club meeting (whichever is easy). I'm just over the hill in Santa Cruz and I need to get over to visit Mel for some used parts anyhow. I was looking for a 7 ball....heck I already have the ball...its just not tapped yet, nor would I be able to get it as pretty a yours! cool smiley . Let me know

I really like the "Looks" of those Seth.
If I was building a car just for looks, I would definitely get one.
BUT, . . . . for all around ergonomics, I still LOVE the good old school, (and "Classic by the way) Aluminum HURST Tee handle shifter.

Jim - The 8 ball is the only one I didn't drill and tap. Maybe some day.

Seth:

Could you make up a 7 for me? The 3 was a bit bright for my bronze interior. I should have thought of that when I PM for it.

I have a full set of vintage pool balls that I'd be happy to donate to the cause Seth. PM me if you want 'em and I'll send you some pics.
