Looks like a nice engine case. Of course at that price it should also come with a tele column (just kidding A. Mel, or maybe I am not).

Well Tim, it seems to be the going market value of RR cases, as determined by the people who want them.
There were 2 people who bid OVER $2000.oo on the recent Evilbay auction.
This case is in better shape than that one was.
So, #2 bidder will be getting an AWESOME deal if he wants this one.

I certainly hope American Mel gets what he's looking for on that RR case.

I think Corvair Forums and Corvair clubs generally attract folks like me looking for Corvair parts and services for less than market price or almost free. The cheap crowd.

Anytime the term "anyone has one laying around" is used that's an indicator of what I'm describing.

Ebay has a much larger audience including folks willing to pay market price or more depending on rarity and/or availability.

Moreover, buyers on eBay know that if they are unhappy (including unreasonably) they have recourse for returns and feedback unlike buying from some guy somewhere.

The RR case that sold for $2000.00 means that ONE sold for that on eBay only.
The auction indicates there were two high bidders but that does not mean the market price for RR engine cases is now $2000.00

If three or four RR cases sell for $2000.00 this year I may be convinced.

Again, I hope American Mel sells his for two grand but I think he's advertising to the wrong group.

RR is the only block correct for AC Corsa. Rb and RZ are for other 140 AC cars.

Other than the extra "R", does the block actually differ in any other respect?

The suffix is not to identify the block halves on the assembly line, it is to identify the COMPLETE engine on the assembly line.

The RR should have the balance tube with the vacuum port (Corsa only) and the special turbo and AC car only upper shroud (with the turbo and A/C only fresh air vent hose). Wait, the turbo upper shroud is ALSO different (cut out for exhaust pipes).

So, RR complete engine would be A/C 140 upper shroud (turkey roaster, couldn't resist) and Corsa balance tube. smileys with beer

Maybe more differences than other R* engines.

RY is also a 140/PG A/C suffix.

As well as 140 smog manual suffix.

Gotta love GM and their duplicity.

Thanks Tim and Frank et al, I have an RB block, and wondered how it differed from an RR.

One letter different is all. That is a really expensive R.

I would suggest if you truly want to sell this part for "what the market will bear" list it for sale on ebay. Then post on here that it is there.

It is NOT a re-stamped block.
I would think that you know me well enough to know that I would not do that.
Even though some on here consider it to be a non-issue apparently.

Yeah, well I can tell you that you’re playing to a limited audience, of which I am a member, and most of us aren’t going to pay anywhere near that price. My car wouldn’t be worth 2K more with an RR block, and much like the last one, I doubt you paid 2K for it. If you are intent on raking someone over the coals - stick it on EBay.

Since you have not found someone willing to pay your price on here you should put it on Ebay and let it ride.......

Hmmm. Price of available RR blocks has been set by eBay price. Doesn't matter where the next one is advertised, the next few people can expect to get similar dollars for theirs. That is unless 100 of them show up at one time. Then we all can call fraud on all of them.

I can not believe the hypocrisy on this forum!
Members complain that they do not see higher prices on their 100 point concours restoration, while at the same time complaining that the asking price of a well used example on Craigslist is WAY overpriced!
When given the opportunity to purchase the things to increase the value of their car they complain about being "raked over the coals", even though the market determined the value, and NOT the original seller ? ! ? ! ?
As for the comment about a car not being worth an additional 2K with an RR block, that is just ludicrous!
The truth is, that even if this so-called "racecar" were to hit a wall and be completely totaled out beyond repair, as long as the block was not damaged in the wreck, the value of said car would never drop below $2K ! ! !
OH, and another ridiculous statement, . . . "and much like the last one, I doubt you paid 2K for it."
This seems to imply that I should be selling it for what I paid for it.
I did not realize how many Socialist are running around this country!
So tell me, if you were walking down the street and found a $20.oo bill, would you not expect a store owner to give you $20.oo value for that bill?
OH NO, you would gladly accept $5.oo worth of products from him, since that bill did not cost you $20.oo in effort to obtain it. RIGHT?
HOGWASH ! ! !
You would not accept anything less than $20.oo worth of value for it as that is its established value!
I may put it up on Ebay, but if I do, it would have a reserve of 2K, since that is the current market established value.
On the other hand, since I do not have a pressing need to get rid of it right now, I may just sit on it.
If it goes up in value GREAT!
If it drops, well, I have enough parts sitting here to just assemble it and keep it as a back-up engine.

Although, since someone on here thinks that it is just not fair for me to have something of that kind of value, maybe I should take action like my Canadian namesake, and do something to bring down its value.
Maybe I should just get out a chisel and slam-up the serial number a bit,EH?

Thanks Al, it is nice to hear the voice of reason around here.
