For those of us "Hobby Welders" Who have never been able to see well with a helmet...any lense / even Auto Darks...

This replaces your lense! Standard size... and instead of being stuck with 9-14 shade lenses...

This goes from 3-11 #5 is normally for Gas Welding.. $6.91 shipped from US!

I'll report when I get it in a few days...

Dan, how much do you weld? I ran 3" of bead today.... 3 " two weeks ago.... nothing for the previous 10 years.... I'd given my AutoDark to my friend...

I'm hoping #7/8 will work for me... #9 today was just "close" with a Mig Light.

Not a ton of welding here but I know what itchy flash burned eyes feel like and seeing something that cheap just reminded me. Kinda like seeing cheapo wrenches makes my knuckles hurt in sympathy grinning smiley. Really just joking about it but I did have that immediate reaction and feeling.

I have a lower priced ArcOne helmet with an auto darkening, adjustable lens for the occasional welding and I've been happy with it.

Matt, if auto-dark doesn't work for you, then how will this auto-dark work for you? Seems the same product.

Standard sized lense? I use the BIG lenses! Maybe that's the new standard...

Bought my auto-dark at the welding supplier, better than the HF one I had at recharging.... Like to test them before welding by holding it up to the sun. Hard to do at night....grinning smiley Flashed my eyes with the HF when it wasn't charged up.

9 really too light for my mig.....

9 is too light for YOUR EYES...

Normal Helmets come with 9-13 shading..

This replacement for a standard / old fashioned helmet goes from 3-11

That's the difference! And less than $7 Cheapest Autodark Helmet is $15 on ebay from a China based seller. [ 4-5 weeks delivery time ]

THIS $7 unit is only $3.98 from China [ 4-5 weeks delivery time ]

Do you really want to risk that ONE and ONLY pair of eyes, to Chinese light filters?

That's the "trick" with many products today... "Solar" with "Lithium Battery"

These must be left in a window when not in use..

I have 3 LED Room lights for power outages... they set in a south facing bay window.

The Helmet I borrowed today had to set in the direct sun for 1 hr. before I could use it..

I left it on a top Shelf facing a South window..

I've always left my HF helmet in its box. It's at least 2 years old and still works. I'll be more careful testing it before I use it now. Thanks!
I have a friend that is older than me. His eyes don't need any tint gas welding.

I have a Hobart Auto-darkening that is 15 years old. It has never lost its charge, even after being unused for 3 years. I do leave it hanging up in my shop, the lights probably maintain a charge.

Latest revelation! Had 4 helmets today to figure this out!

Unless you weld often....any solar charged unit does need to set in the Sun for a day before using...

Borrowed some helmets to see if any were better...

1 A-D with battery only

2 A-D With Bat and Solar AND LOW BAT LIGHT!

3 A-D Solar only / HF unit from the 90's

4 A-D Solar / Battery [ litium ] / used last Fri. Set in window / Sun all weekend.
---------------------------------------------------

1 New Bat Came alive-- worked great!

2 New Bat Same as #1

3 Setting in window

4 Worked BETTER than Fri....lense stayed as light...as #1 and #2

SO bottom line!! Even with LOW Battery... units will darken Fine! BUT

without good voltage / current they will NOT be variable! Only Super dark.

Sadly, Shade 9 is still too dark FOR ME, even with Stech MIG-Light [ available on Walmart.com for $26 / free ship ]

I must admit I made the best 3" weld bead in my life... on a 0.060" steel Seam Weld!

Also I had a #13 / #11 / #9 [ with Gold lense ] Lenses and 3 different Magnifiers.

And I've purchased a Forney / USA #8 to compare with the cheapy China Made A-D
