When it comes to storing apples, there's an old adage about eating the worst ones first but I don't know if you can compare apples and oil coolers.

If I has NOS parts I wouold use them on whether it was a concours quality show car or a daily driver where reliability was essential. In the end, what purpose is saving it in the box unless you are planning a museum?

But, it is your part, so use, save, or crush as you see fit.

The real question is, who or what are you saving it for? If you don't use it or sell it your kids will just throw it in the trash when you die.

But the bottom line is.. what's the common part, in this case a NOS oil cooler, worth?
So it's new. The moment its installed it's instantly used, just like all the other used ones on the shelf.
Being a common part that is available in abundance used... why make it just another used part? Then again.. why not

Perhaps the only value of these common NOS parts like I mentioned in the OP, is that it's a nice conversation piece, because we see a lot of them used, but hardly ever see them NOS.

As far as it's value. I guess it's in the eye of a potential buyer. Then like Ken said... what are the chances it will leak anyway?!?

Interesting conversation.

Except that fact that it's for sure never had bearing material or worse go through it. And it's never gotten hot and baked the oil in it.

It will be just like all the others on the shelf after you run it for 50+ years. Even then it will always be newer.

And that is the advantage of having a NOS oil cooler, Yes if you use it it will be used, but it will be clean inside for your new engine you just spent $5000+ to build! Oil coolers are meant to be used! Use it, or sell it to me and I will use it! grinning smiley

Dave you ask above what an NOS oil cooler is worth. Put it on ebay and you will know.
