Seth, I just installed one of your sets and as everyone says they look great. Thanks for offering this product for us all.

I would like to know though what you think the best gear oil or additive would be to run in a posi differential to keep the plates from galling and making noise? I have seen many differentials that have perfect looking gears but the clutch plates are all chewed up and don't know myself what oil works best.

Thanks in advance,

I got about 25 different answers when I posted this on a Corvair Racers FB page. Remember the diff and trans share oil, so you cannot go to GL-5 oil. Several went to a special AMSoil 75-90, GL-4 lube.

I've asked around and got several different answers on oil as well Seth. I have been using Amsoil 75w90 GL-4 in my non-posi transaxle with good success. Noticeably better shifting. I usually use Redline products but didn't realize at the time they also make a modified GL-5 NS for transaxles. Didn't really care for the pyramid marketing Amsoil uses.... My Porsche racing buddies exclusively use Swepco 201. I don't think it's a synthetic oil if that's important. Porsche's also use a different type of synchro. For now, I'm going to use the Amsoil stuff and try it as is. Will do some sweeping turns to test if it shutters. If so, I'll put some Auburn posi additive in because that's what I have on the shelf. If anyone has experience with this and is thinking, my God Bob don't use that, let me know.

My posi transaxle rebuild is finished and will be putting into my coupe next week. The one thing noted is the breakaway torque was 125 Lbs. Seems high but only #'s found was 50 Lbs minimum. Do you think this is OK Seth?

I used Joe Gibbs,Driven Gl-4 that was recommended by several trans builders. So far I have had no clutch plate chatter with out any additive and my shifts are really nice. Time will tell....

Also, wanted to add that this is with some good used clutch plates, not new.

The new ones are going in the 65 build.

For reference -I have sold-out of the Posi Clutch plate kits. I may have more by the Fan Belt Toss in late October. Clarks Corvair Parts, California Corvair Parts and Mike's Corvair Parts have them in stock, if you need some.

Well my first short drive was successful with Seth's new plates. I had a lot of stuff done including new bearings and wavy washer in the trans, all new bearings, posi plates and changed to 3:27 gears in the diff. Lots of things that could go wrong eye popping smiley. So far, works great! Used Amsoil GL-4 without any additive, no shutter in sweeping right or left turns. My biggest concern was the higher breakaway torque of 120 ft lbs. I'll take it easy for awhile then measure again. I'll need to make a tool for checking the breakaway installed. I guess a plate that will bolt to the wheel studs and a big hex nut in the center.
