LED's!! smileys with beer

I have been so busy trying to get the '67 Monza rewired and running again I forgot to mention that I have now installed LED's is about 98% of the Monza!! smileys with beer

I mentioned in an earlier post that I have managed to use Pilot Automotive 1156 and 1157 LED Bulbs for the Stop/Turn/Tail/Parking and Backup positions.

I have now installed an LED version of the type 67 Bulb for the License Plate and have installed and LED unit for the Dome Light. I have a few other LED unit to install when I have the time.

I would like to thank SuperbrightLEDs for there fast service, good prices, and LED Bulbs that do exactly what they say!

I am now down to the Headlights, and that is a completely different story!

Dale: could you tell us a bit more about the performance. It says 360 degree pattern on the 1157 but I have heard nightmares about dim LED because Corvair taillights come it at a 45 degree angle. I do not want to spend $60 and have them dim and I do not care for the random led type where you replace the entirel base.
I have done the dash except the fan/light because of the diode issue.i may get the Clark’s Flashing version. I also want to do the courtesy lights in my convertible but worry about the coverage compared to incandescent. Also, did you do the glovebox light and ashtray light? How about the luggage compartment light and the engine compartment lights
Appreciate if you would share yout wisdom.

I've not looked into them much. I was recently driving behind a truck pulling a trailer and his brake/turn lights would flash rapidly for a few seconds when they first came on then flashed normally, real attention grabber.

Just get some of these, they will blind you, period. Don't worry about MODs, just install as is. You don't need to worry about where the projector is pointing. You will need a grounded electronic flasher. I have their switch backs in the front and backups as well. No problems with any of them. I could post PICs, but it really doesn't show the brightness. They are on PRIME so just return them if you don't like.

If your not happy come back and flame me.

I have found the Pilot Automotive 1157 LED bulbs work fine.

I first saw these in the Auto department at Wal-Mart. I was impressed by the price, $14.99 for a set of two! I thought I should give them a try!

They have one problem that I had to figure out. The way the 'bulb' is built they would not fit into the GM socket. It turns out that the bulb needed to go about one sixteenth of an inch deeper into the socket so it will lock in place.

The lower printed circuit board was a little oversized. I was able to reduce their diameter using my grinder. They fit perfectly and the brightness is OK.

Wal-Mart no longer sells Pilot Automotive LED bulbs but they are available on the network.

It has been a couple years since I did this so there may be better units available now but for $15 a pair I think I got a good deal!!

I got 2 set of switchbacks from Superbright, and they started flickering after 1 week!

Some years ago there were complaints about the Super Bright 1157 LED's

The ones they sell now work well. See [www.superbrightleds.com]

If you paint the tail lamp housings high-temp white they will be brighter.

The pattern on the lense has a bit of a starburst pattern, but illumination is even from side to side unlike some LED bulbs that only are bright if you are directly in line with the lens, then nothing off center.

I've used them with 65 and 66(and later) tail lamp lenses. Good with either.

I got mine just last year!
When did they become wonder products?
When I called about them, I got some kid in India who tried to tell me that my car needed the CANBUS!
NOT IMPRESSED ! ! !
