Clutch cable project comming along great. Need your help.
Posted by: rlp11 ()

Like the subject line says. The EM Clutch cable project is coming along fine. My Stainless cable will be here by the 4th. The swedging dies will be done by the 8th. So all in looking up. All parts except the clevis will be Stainless Steel. Stainless Steel cable will work fine on the 3" dia clutch pulley.

But I need your help.

EM
The EM cable cable clevis at the pedal. See picture. Looks like I will need your old clevis to build you a new replacement cable. I had the clevis priced out at my metal house and wow way to expensive in small qty. Your cable would be broken so cut the clevis off and send it to me. This will keep the cost down.

LM
I also need the two versions of the LM cable to copy. Broken is OK just need all the parts or a good picture with dimensions. On the LM cable the solid rod will be in two pieces with threaded coupler and jam nuts so you can carry one in your trunk. This will also reduce shipping cost.

Roger only one version of LM unless you mean the 69 using the self-aligning bearing end.

I have a reproduction LM cable that is frayed but still together. Would be happy to donate to the project.

I just sent Roger all the dimensions and photos I had done for another forum member about a year ago. Never heard back on how his project was going. If he has positive news, I expect he would have chimed in by now.

If anyone else wants the package I sent Roger, send me a PM.

Thanks Al that is just what I needed. Can you tell me the thread size? Early cable it is 5/16-24. LM cable looks a little courser.

Still no help on the EM clevis. Going to call California Corvairs to see if they have any broken cable parts.

So no help for the EM cable pedal end clevis. I have all the parts to make a completely Stainless Steel cable. Just need that clevis. Like I said I am willing to pay for them.

I would bet that the EM clevis could be water jet at a reasonable price for small scale manufacturing quantities, as long as the pin and the hole for the pin can be put in afterwards.

Look at SS fixtures for small sailboats. You probably find something for less than you can make it.

I do not think the slotted ones will work over the long haul. The cable is putting 300-400 pounds of force on the clevis every time the clutch pedal is pushed. The cable has a ball and will separate the slot over time. Looks I am going to make my own. They will have the same shape and size as the OEM clevis. Already have made two Stainless rivet. Now to drill and form the Stainless flat bar. I just finished the bending dies and spacers for my press. I love a good challenge.

Another thread prompted me to post the following. (I also posted the same information on the other thread)

When I read this thread, I did some searching on flea bay and found a few potential substitute pieces that may be easier to come up with and modified to work....maybe.
The top photo is a John Deere part that sells for about $5.00 [www.ebay.com]
The center photo is a Yamaha Motorcycle application and a bit pricey at about $24.00. [www.ebay.com]
The bottom photo appears to be a generic application with a Parker part # L071300100 and sells for about $10.00 [www.ebay.com]
