() Date: December 28, 2019 05:35PM Finished the mounting board, then hung the inside unit and verified that it was level. The new, stiffer brackets virtually eliminated the front-to-back movement. It appears that the drain line will work when it's routed to the toe-piece opening instead of cutting a hole in the floorboard directly under the unit. ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() Dean F. I'm planning to install the ProCar Rally seats with sliders that will allow more movement than the stock seats... and there will be no back seat to worry about crunching rear passenger knees. ![]() Dean F. () Date: December 31, 2019 07:44AM Any chance you could put the HVAC unit on the other side of the firewall? It certainly would clean up the cabin, keep the legroom, and get easier access to the plumbing, as well as keep more hot hoses out of the cabin. They’ll transmit heat whether you want them to or not. This is an awesome project, by the way. I’ve just been lurking enjoying your progress. --------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- You're unique, just like everyone else... () Date: December 31, 2019 05:44PM Johnny, (PressurizedPancake) Thank you vairy much for the suggestion and compliment. ![]() Relocating the unit to the trunk would be great except that 6 each 2 inch air hoses must be cut through the firewall for the vents and defrosters and that still does not allow for the hot air floor heat. Even if I used splitters for the hoses, then that would still require 3 each 2 inch hoses through the firewall and that's assuming that I would be able to modify the plastic housing that directs the floor heat air... () Date: January 01, 2020 08:08AM Yeah, that’s a tough situation you’re in. The last ‘40 Ford we did at least fit some of the box under the dash; looks like that’s not happening for you. I know how hot those GA summers are, too! You really need that unit to be comfortable. If I can make one more suggestion from the sidelines: I’d feel so much better if you made a bespoke pair of tubes that had the hose connections outside the cabin, in the unlikely event that a hose bursts, slides off, or a clamp fails. I really don’t want anyone to ever experience that, as I’ve taken a friend to the hospital for burns from a hose bursting 20 minutes after we shut the car off. It wasn’t pretty... again, just a respectful insight from my experience. Looking forward to your video of this when completed! --------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- You're unique, just like everyone else... () Date: January 01, 2020 08:14AM Dean, I've enjoyed your all your projects so far to date. Thank you again for taking the time to share them. You put a lot into then and it shows. I don't know what space is available and I know it would be a lot of extra work and even some steps backwards. But have you given it any thought to: 1. Trying to replace the engine coolant lines at the firewall, inside the car, with solid ones that would put the rubber hose connections in the trunk and under the floor, instead of inside the cab area. 2. That way you could place the aftermarket AC/Heating unit under the dash below the radio, with no concerns to how to replace those hoses when needed. 3. If desired, you could build a console to hide the AC/Heater unit and those coolant lines at the same time and leg room would never be a concern. Keep up the great work. () Date: January 01, 2020 08:16AM Basically, turn your existing pipes into S-pipes by welding radiused tubing to your existing tubes, or get a pair bent up with hose retention barbs/rings rolled on the ends to get the liquid connection outside of the cabin. Does this make sense? --------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- You're unique, just like everyone else... That would be yet another benefit to my #1 in my post above. When I was a full time mechanic, a vehicle had a recall for the heater core exploding and burning people. I've always been bad with names but I think it was a Renault. Anyways, by doing new tubes with fittings outside the cabin, would kill 3 birds with the extra effort. Edited 1 time(s).
