Dean, here is the burp tank that Ken installed on my car. Just changed a little from the original build. I need some moon eyes. Jim

Thanks Jim!

Is that the only "burp tank" on the car?

Are you running a stock water pump or a remote electric one?

Dean, that is the only burp tank. There are several air bleed hoses up front at the radiator. I'm running a stock water pump but it runs off the back side of the "V' belt to get the correct rotation. Better if it were a flat serpentine belt system. Works OK though as is. Jim

Slow progress over the past two weeks due to replacing a failed power window motor in the 65 Olds 98 convertible last weekend (thanks to Ken Arnold's ingenuity) and watching my beloved Army football team defeat the valiant Navy team yesterday.

Installed most of the new stainless brake lines and the new stainless fuel line.

Installed the new headlight adjusters to replace the broken ones on one side.

Dean, in a PM you asked about the trunk latch support. Answer: Yes, I kept the support. Here's what it looks like under my car's radiator grille.

Cut the openings for the air flow in the front of the car and started the cutting for installing the radiator:

Dean, Back on October 14, 2018 @ 09:03PM you posted a picture with some kind of trailing arm support brace.

What was it that you use and do you think it would be strong enough to be able to roll a vehicle around - without the power-plant?

Thanks,

Tony

Tony,

Cut a long section of strut channel in half so that they would overlap in the middle, then bolted them to the rear arms and bolted them together in the middle.

It was strong enough to allow the car to roll around without the power pack.

Dean, Great work and good idea! What's the Unistut bolted to on the ends? The lower shock mounts?

Arden (Wagon Master),

The strut channels are bolted to the trailing arms at the same place where the torque arms bolt.

Now that I think about it, I should have used the thing that I built for the '69 convertible using square steel tubing and an old torque arm...(getting forgetful in my old age):

Purchased a powder-coated aluminum after-market F-150 grille as suggested by Craig Nicol, then cut two sections and modified them to fit the openings.

This is the first mock-up...

Dean - DO you have a source and a price on the F150 grille. Also, which radiator is that going in? Brand and size/model?

Since power windows all the way around were a "must-have" for this car, I initially purchased those after-market power window devices that spin the original regulator:

But after installing one, I was not thrilled with the facts that

1. it was going to take some creativity to hide the motors for the rear windows and

2. that a plastic cover must be installed to hide the crank gear which would make for a less-than-desireable door panel appearance.
.
.

So based upon the wise counsel and recommendation from Ken Arnold, I contacted Dusty with Nu-Relics Power Windows who shipped a kit that included the 4 power regulators including the wiring and switches.

Dusty candidly stated that, although they offered the rear power regulators for the Corvair, nobody had ever purchased them. Therefore, he wasn't 100% certain that they would fit.

Nontheless, I proceeded with the order only to discover that they did NOT fit.sad smiley

The good news is that both Dusty and I were committed to making them work.

After TWICE shipping them back to him, the third version works beautifully, but required cutting the door panel to accommodate the motor.

Be sure to watch the video at the bottom!
