I decided to temporarily make the car a roller while awaiting arrival of the tilt steering column because I prefer to install the new tilt column while the fuel tank is out of the way.

Therefore, the front suspension was temporarily installed.

Then installed the torque arms, shocks and springs along with the homemade contraptions that will allow the car to be a roller without the powertrain.

As most understand, it is difficult to compress the rear coil springs without having the weight of the powertrain supplying the downward force.

Therefore, I modified a set of Macpherson strut compressors that allowed compression of the coil springs so that they could be easily dropped into place.

By cutting off 3 inches from the compressor rods, they allow for compression and then easy removal from the springs after being dropped into place.

Installed the new wheels and tires and rolled the car away from the lift posts to allow the doors to be fully opened.

Installed the wiper arm linkage, the new wiper motor, washer fluid reservoir, squirters and most of the hoses, then tested the wiper motor to verify that it was working properly.

Installed the front cowl/intake grill and spent a lot of time carefully tweaking the trunk lid to ensure proper clearance from the cowl/intake grill and shimmed the hinges to ensure the lid was as level as possible.

Although there was no photo documentation, I had to drill and extract a broken door hinge bolt on the passenger side, then decided to remove the other door hinge bolts a few at a time to blast and powder coat them satin black so that they all matched.

Cleaned up the PG shifter and powder-coated the special base that was hand-made by Ken Arnold when he was drag racing the car.

My plan is to mount this is the center console after finding a more suitable knob...

More suitable knob?
Wouldn't keeping that one be like a tribute nod to Ken, and help this back to the original car?

When it comes time to install the shifter, that will certainly be a consideration, Mel.

Cleaned and painted the kick panels and vent covers using Satin Black spray paint.

Installed the replacement windshield trim clip studs on the rear air intake, then dabbed some paint on them to prevent rust.

Yes, sir... Pioneer speakers inside the fresh air vents because the car will have a Restomod Air Heat & Air Conditioning system. thumbs up

Replaced the quarter window chrome trim pieces with new ones.

Followed the written instructions:

->Soaked the trim edges in PB Blaster penetrant for several days

->Used a rubber mallet & wooden block to knock the trim loose and remove the old rubber

->Cleaned up the glass using 0000 steel wool and Acetone

->Cut a length of the new rubber and taped it to both sides of the glass using painters tape.

->Sprayed all sides of the rubber with window cleaner then tapped the new trim pieces onto the glass using the rubber mallet.

->Placed the windows outside in the sunshine to evaporate the glass cleaner.

->Used a fresh razor blade to cut the excess rubber by angling the blade towards the inside edge of the trim.
(Note: it does not take much pressure to cut the rubber...just be certain to use a fresh blade)
