Thanks Craig!

If you are referring to the front directional units, those are brand-new from Clarks.

I only blasted and powder-coated the black brackets NOT the directional units themselves.

If you still want the details on my powder-coating setup:

1. Old home oven
2. Home-made spray booth from a wooden cabinet
3. Craftsman Electric powder gun that does NOT require compressed air
4. I exclusively use the Eastwood powders for their consistent quality

Thanks Dean. I was referring to the front turn housings but also the rear turn housings which almost look like chrome too. Nice Nice Nice!

OK, then for the tail light housings, I blasted them and used Eastwood's Hot Coat Powder Silver Base to improve the inside reflectability for the bulbs.

Installed the new repro front grill bar and the bracket that holds the "burp tank" inside the engine bay.

Only got to talk to you a short while at Maggie Valley last fall, so can't claim to know you well, but judging by your quest for perfection in this build, I have to believe the gap in the pinchweld on your grill will slowly gnaw at you until it's replaced. Do it now, so you don't have to pull the bumper. Fingers crossed it will be ready to display at the convention!

So true..

Well, Scott, I do plan to replace it assuming that the recently ordered pinch weld matches the existing pinch weld. After all, dealing with products on eBay can be hit or miss, especially when I failed to keep a good record of the original pinch weld purchase from years ago...

While on the hunt for the elusive front brake hose brackets, I have sorted through and cleaned out all the car parts and pieces that have accumulated over the past 8 or 9 years.

Since the brake hose brackets remain hidden, I called Corvair Ranch and ordered a pair today.

During a break in the parts cleanout, I managed to install the new rear bumper.

Installing shiny, new parts is incredibly satisfying and motivating.

Interested to see how your right cove trim matches up, after that photo you posted before.

Thank you for asking about the cove trim fitment issue, Scott!

Since there will be a lot of bending over the engine bay during the power train installation, the side and bottom cove trim will not be installed until afterwards to avoid scratching the new trim.

However, the trim piece was temporarily put in place to show that the body shop corrected the issue with the passenger side cove body work.

Well Dean, I hope I don't jinx you, but growing up in a body shop, the last items put on were the outside trim items. Even the glass went in before any outside trim.

Looks good and enjoying the thread.

Thanks Doug!

Fortunately, the few items that have already been installed can be easily uninstalled if necessary.

The next big step is to install the fuel tank, the front suspension and enough of the rear suspension to make it a roller again.

Used a Roloc wheel to remove the minor surface rust from the underside of the cowl that sits below the rear window, primed it with Rustoleum primer and sprayed it flat black.

Found the ashtray while searching for the front brake hose brackets yesterday, so figured that it would receive the same wrinkle finish treatment that was applied to the dash and radio bezel.

Blasted it, used cast aluminum powder coat, refinished the handle with satin black plastic paint and applied the VHT wrinkle paint and cooked it for 1 hour at 200 degrees to obtain the "tight" wrinkle finish.

Finished installing the motor mounts, then installed the lower radiator support

Replaced the pinch weld on the front air intakes, though the new pinch weld is not quite as good as what was purchased awhile back.

Installed the new front bumper.

OK, now I'm taking a poll thumbs up or thumbs down

(Keep in mind that Georgia is a rear plate only state)

1. Install the front license plate?

2. Delete the front license plate?

Much cleaner look without the front plate IMO. Keep it up it looks great!

Yes it looks cleaner without the front license plate but...

You went to all that effort to cut out air induction holes on either side of where the front plate would go, so installing it would not really restrict air flow.

You probably paid extra to get the personalized license plate and I think it deserves to be displayed. Had it been a regular license plate, I would say kick it to the curb and be done with it.

If you elect to go without the front license plate, you may need to make a custom front bumper and eliminate to recess for it. (Just a thought for yet more work)

In the end, your preference is all that matters.

I vote that you hang that front plate in front of whatever stall in your garage you park that car.
I can not think of any car that actually looks good with a front plate, period!
One of the first things I do to my cars when I get them home after purchase, is to yank the front plate.
And I live in a Front Plate State!
