() Date: January 02, 2022 05:03PM Anyone have some insight on what rear tire diameter or differential gear ratio I would need to keep up with this guy? Also, if the lower windshield/dash panel needs reworked, body guys like to have the lower stainless trim to properly fit the panel. () Date: January 07, 2022 03:42PM Trailered the rolling shell to the body shop in Fayetteville, Georgia today. Winched it down the tilt-bed trailer with several of the employees helping to get it pushed onto the property. Had a good conversation with the gentleman who started the company. He began doing body work part-time in Puerto Rico in 1974. He would work on the family farm during the day and then do paint and body work in the evenings and on weekends. His company is staffed 100% by family members and it shows! Everyone that I have met so far is very friendly and they you feel like you are part of their family. After unloading the car, I went inside to their office, completed the initial paperwork and then made the drive back home. I am looking forward to the end result! ![]() ![]() ![]() Dean F. (grin) I think what you're confusing for holes are actually remnants of pulling studs. Looks like some nice progress with no real surprises so far. () Date: February 24, 2022 12:31PM My car has a lot of the acrylic lacquer paint checking, afraid my body will need stripped like yours, Dean. Are all cars stripped to metal at this shop, or was checking bad on your body, too? Scott Danville, In. () Date: February 24, 2022 01:20PM I may have missed the answer, but since it looks like they took the new body down to metal, why not just have this one media blasted as well? It seems to be about the same result. Thanks for writing all this up, it's always good to hear "the rest of the story". --Bryan Bryan Blackwell | Fairfax Station, Va. | bryan@skiblack.com | [autoxer.skiblack.com] Corvairs: '62 700 Wagon, '64 Greenbrier, '66 Corsa "Why do something if you're not going to obsess about it?" () Date: February 24, 2022 03:52PM The body of this car had numerous dents but definitely no "holes". The biggest concern was the metal on both sides of the rear air grille where a previous owner made exhaust cutouts. See photos below... The body shop has asked me to cut off these sections from the first body so that they can replace them. I do not know for certain if Extreme Auto Restorations takes ALL cars down to bare metal but, given their stellar reputation, I'm assuming that they do it to ensure high quality results. I chose to not have this body media blasted because I was a little "gun-shy" given the warped hoods from the blasting of the first body. My decision to let the body shop handle this as they see fit appears to be paying off. ![]() ![]() Dean F. () Date: February 25, 2022 01:48PM Exactly what Dean said. No high quality body shop is going to paint over someone else's work. If they 'trust' the customer and paint over it, then guess who gets the blame when imperfections start showing through.
