Made it home this evening and got the car unloaded.

It was a good, safe and uneventful trip with my good friend, West Point classmate and fellow old car fan, Bill Merrill.

I will take and post more photos this weekend.

I must have missed a post or something.

Is this new addition to replace the body of the racecar or another Corvair project for the near future?

Aside from some relatively minor dents and surface rust, this car is straight, solid, rust-free and shows no evidence of any collision damage.

I am VERY happy with it!

Yes, Tony, this body will replace the original body of the race car. Look at the photos posted on page 18 of this thread to see why a re-body was necessary.

Finally examined the "new" 65 coupe body and took almost 100 photos.

Besides the usual and expected dings, dents and scratches, one can see where a P.O. cut out openings in the sheet metal to either side of the rear air grill, apparently for dual exhaust pipes.

A P.O. also removed the bottom rear "mud flap" sheet metal on both sides for some reason.

Overall the body is very solid and will be a terrific replacement for this project.

Probably filled up with leaves, debris, small pebbles blocking the drain and he did not want to deal with cleaning it out periodically.

Lower front panel has typical Colorado "road rash" from when they used sand / small pebbles on snow / ice.

By the way, I purchased the "new" 65 body from Norm Latulippe of Corvair racing fame.

I met him and his wife, Linda, at their home in Greenville, Virginia to pick up the car.

Removed the broken front windshield and the rear windshield today.

However, the fishing line method failed miserably because the windshield "cord" adhesive had hardened to the point that the fishing line wasn't strong enough to cut through it.

So, made a quick trip to Harbor Freight to purchase the Windshield Removal Kit.

This kit allowed easy removal of both windshields without damage because the wire and pull handles are designed to "saw" through the adhesive.

(The broken windshield remained intact too)

Also bought two of the 8 dollar dual suction cups to make it easier to handle the glass.

You can tell that it is a '65 because it didn't come with a padded dash.

Most likely... Given the angle and location of the entry hole, it apparently took out the driver's door glass too because the glass was missing when it was loaded onto my trailer.

It's coming along and still looks like it is going to be much easier fix to do whatever is needed on the new body vs the old one.

BTW - It must be nice to have a Harbor Freight near by.
We have a store like it called Princes Auto.
However, it is over an hour one-way away from us. thumbs down sad smiley
