Cut out the rear section that was requested by the body shop that will allow them to replace the sections on both sides of the rear air grille where a previous owner made exhaust cut outs.

I plan to deliver it this Wednesday along with the cove end moldings so that they can finish gapping the rear deck lid.

Finally received an update from the body shop that also included four photos:

"Hi there Mr. Dean!
Hope all is well. Yes, the 1st round of blocking is just about completed (Should be done by Weds). Primer again by the first of the week for the second round and then the last wet check so we can approve for painting. Think we should be good for painting in the next 2 weeks."

I know from experience that getting the "Belt Line" nice and straight all the way around can be extremely difficult.

Be sure they pay particular attention to that area, especially if the car will be painted a dark color. (Mine was painted Black so it was more likely to show any flaws)

Received the following update and two photos from the body shop:

"Hi there Mr. Dean,
Hope all is well with you. Final round of blocking was just completed. Next is sealer and into the booth it goes. Please see photos attached (even though it doesn't look like much in photos, it's straight as an arrow and perfect gaps all around).

I know you live a good bit away but would you like to come by and confirm color choice? If so I can have some spray out cards done."

Here's a little tidbit that you guys already know based on working with the Rover version of this engine. When the engine sits for a while without running, the oil pump loses its prime which means that on first startup there's very little oil pumping around. The old school trick for that was to pack the pump with Vasoline!

Alternately, since the oil pump is driven by the distributor shaft, you can make a tool out of a screwdriver shaft with a bit of rubber hose and a ty-wrap (or buy the proper tool) and drive the pump with an electric drill.

In the Rover sedans I had with this engine, the engine wouldn't start until the oil pressure switched on at the minimum oil pressure, so you could be cranking a rather dry engine for quite a while.

You guys are pros, and I am not, so you're probably aware of this.

Another quirk of the Rover version was that if you followed the factory specs for the cylinder heads you would inevitably end up leaking into the valley area. Composite gaskets and undertorqueing one row of bolts avoided this.

Again, you guys are the pros, not me. Anyone who had raced one of these engines would be aware of all this.

Drove up to the body shop today to look at a "spray out card" of the Bright Teal Metallic paint.

Also took some photos of the car.

The car is tentatively scheduled to go into the paint booth within 2 weeks.

I had almost forgotten just how good this color looks because it can look "greener" or "bluer" depending upon the light.

Well, it seems that I might have accidently confused you folks by posting that last photo of the "spray out card" that was sitting on the seat of my computer chair.

The upholstery of the computer chair is NOT what is planned for the interior material and color.

The seats will be black vinyl with the black & white houndstooth as shown below.

Please note that I haven't yet figured out the door panels, headliner or carpet colors yet...

On page 15 of this build thread, I posted a video of the alternator after installing the stabilizing bracket.

However, that video refuses to play.

Therefore, I am posting it here for reference:

On page 6 of this build thread, the photos of the revamped radiator support bracket are no longer viewable for some reason.

Therefore, they have been posted below:

Things have been at a standstill while waiting on the body shop.

But I made some small progress this past weekend by brush-painting the back seat storage pieces with black paint.

Although these pieces will be upholstered with black vinyl and the black & white houndstooth, I thought it best to black them out to match, especially since the insides of the top & bottom sections won't be covered nor will the undersides of the removable covers.
