Rust bucket Lakewood with A/C
Posted by: joelsplace ()

Picked this up Monday in Austin. A/C pulls air for the condenser from the front fender area. It has two 4" dryer ducts to feed the condenser. One to the front driver's side and the other to the rear passenger side where the '64 has a vent. I haven't looked yet - where does this area pick up air?

This is a rust bucket? Looks pretty good from the picture.

Pictures lie. The stainless and aluminum trim isn't rusty.
AZ - rust bucket
NY - no rust at all

The areas behind the front fenderwell are open to the top intake below the windshield. Also open to the vent area in the kick panel.

Rusty floors are common on Corvairs - especially Early Models...

Good news is that replacement panels are available.

I'll try to get some more pictures tomorrow. Just finished the real job so I won't be going out to the shop tonight. Tomorrow is the wife's birthday so I may be delayed.

Haven't tried it yet. The guy said it needed to be charged which usually means the compressor is blown up. I'll find out.
