I have corvair parts EVERYWHERE!!!!!!!!

Now that I am almost done with the EM I need to clean up to keep my sanity...

I have a "machine" area in the back of the shop that I really can't even fully use right now.

Save the late shift tube standing in the corner,
you need that for your LM.

Once the parts show up in the living room and bedroom, you are doomed. That was where the Mrs., who is quite supportive of my Vair Hobby, drew the line!

Now that Im down to just the Greenbrier, I have slowly divested myself of the various LM stuff that I had collected for my 67 4 door and 9 convertible, both long gone.

I suspect "Corvair" is french meaning parts hoarder - LOL.

I was at a local coffee cruise in and a fellow told me some old guy had FIVE sheds of NOS and used Corvair parts in his back yard in the 90's. He died and his relatives had it ALL hauled off to the dump!!!!

This winter I'm cleaning out my Corvair stuff while I still can.

I'll be posting a list of bulky stuff for GWFBT this Fall.

I do not know about French. eye rolling smiley
But I do know what it means in Romanian! eye popping smiley

Many years ago, at a church camp, I caught a small group of Romanian boys standing around the back of my car.
They were pointing at the back end and talking in whispers.
When I asked them what they were doing, most of them quickly left.
One boy remained behind and asked me, "Mel, why do you have that word on your car?"
I asked "what word?"
He timidly pointed at the Corvair script.
"That word, why do you have it on your car?" he repeated.
"Corvair?" I asked.
"How do you say it?" he asked.
"Corvair" I repeated much slower.
"Why do you have it on your car?" he asked again.
"Because that is what it is!" I told him.
"What does it mean?" he persisted.
"It does not mean anything really", I told him, "it is just a name."
"OH." he said, "'cause we have that same word in Romania."
"OH." I answered. "And what does it mean in Romanian?"
He quickly looked around to see who might be listening.
"It means, whore!" he whispered. "'cept we say it, Coor'Va."

Well, after that, I never really felt there was a need to "Name" my Corvairs!

Does that pallet jack see double duty as an engine lift when r&ring the powerpack?confused smiley

About 15 years ago I got rid of almost all of my Corvair parts and thought I was done with them. Well that apparently wasn't going to happen and I bought the Blue '65 Monza I have a few years later and a couple of month's ago, the '62 Van.

Fast forward to today and I find in the past two month's since I have begun actually working on the car that my living room has become a storage area for thousands of dollars worth of new parts which with a couple of exceptions, would all fit in the trunk of the car if I packed it carefully. For a while the new reproduction front to rear brake and gas lines were sitting on a loveseat.

Fortunately, or unfortunately for me, depending on perspective, there is nobody to yell at me unless I am talking to myself. When I do that though, I usually won't answer myself.grinning smiley

On the positive side....if I need something, I can hop into my car and drive to the Corvair Ranch which is close enough to be hazardous to my pocket.

You mean like this? grinning smiley

It was a piece of cake putting it in. Since I have a lift it is parallel to the ground and the pallet jack lifts up to about 30" it is easy. The whole trick is getting the engine on the jack so the back of the pallet lift clears the back of the car.

No more boat room for me, I've already worn out my welcome at the town variance committee.

The areas circled in red are the garage and work areas. The small part that is not circled is the living area.

In 1977, I told the Air Force I was ready for a worldwide assignment. The Corvair build was finished, and I wanted to see more of the world than North Dakota. Go SAC! (The North Dakota state bird is the mosquito; the N.D. state tree is the telephone pole.) Unfortunately for me, the new assignment was a hole in the wall unit in West Germany. When a sergeant from the unit picked me up at the train station, he started laughing at my name tag, guess it hadn't occurred to him before. My last name, that was on my name tag, is McVicker. In Germany, the f word is fick, and in German, V is pronounced as an F. When people saw my printed name, or the name tags on my uniforms, it produced more than a few snickers.

Yeah, I have the same issue. Corvair parts, Mustang Parts, and marine parts have taken over my shop.eye popping smiley

I solved the marine parts problem though. A guy came by to purchase a $100 used sterndrive lift pump. I offered him everything for $300; there was enough to fill his Suburban and about $1500 value for a marine parts reseller like him.

He jumped at the chance and I recovered about 20 square feet of floor space. The money went to purchase a nice shiny used chart plotter; about the size of a small lunchbox. Win Win!
