Mechanical Fuel Pump Removal Kit?
Posted by: BobV66Vair ()
Date: August 07, 2018 07:30AM

Is there a kit for the lines to remove a mechanical fuel pump that has been superseded by an electric pump? I would like to eliminate the pump altogether so there is no chance of a leaking pump.

No kit.... vendors have the billet plug....and all you have to do is put a 90 EL off the Tee and straighten the 5/16" Line to fit.

Some folks sell a dummy center section for the fuel pump that allows stok lines and a stock look with no leak potential. Just pull the pump actuating rod, replace the center of the pump, and reinstall.

Removal of the pump and lines and using a plug gives tons more room around the back of the engine. Many (including me) turn the lines around so the T fitting is at front of engine and a simple steel line into the engine bay and 90 degree to the T makes a clean arrangement.

That is how mine are run. It does clean up the engine bay nicely.

I'm planning to do this to both of my cars, just finished the same thing on my 84 K5, steel fuel line now snakes it's way along the frame rail and up the firewall and rubber line completes the connection to the carb, installed a T with a pressure gauge to tell if the pump is working.

Steve and David, when you run the lines around the back of the engine, are you using a fuel distribution block?
Any pics of your setup?

triumphcorvair: as Matt states, I use the typical T
fitting and 90 degree pointing to dr side. I make fresh
line from rubber hose over axle through the grommet into
engine bay and then towards the T fitting. I use flare
couplings NO RUBBER HOSE in engine bay. I use 5/16"
steel brake line for the inlet.

Here is a 140 in an early I cleaned up a few weeks ago. I like to keep the stock fuel pump appearance with the electric pump! Hard to see but the PCV system is fully operational with these air filters!

Spark control? Mechanical ONLY for a around town car..... VA's seldom help in town...mainly for mileage on highway driving...

I do remember the VA only VW Beetles...

First thing we'd do is replace it with a Bus 009 or 011..Mech. adv. only

My engine, but you can't really see the incoming fuel line in the pic.

That seems like a good thing, the less you see of pipes and wires the better I like it.

Tom, Actually, if you notice...the springs are not holding down the air filter top yet along with the vacuum to the dist! This pic was taken about 1/2 too soon! [from finished!]
