The Tulare 65
Posted by: toms73novass ()

This is the start of my next build thread.

It is a 65 Monza 110 PG.

The car came out of Tulare, CA with the help of Seth Emerson.

It was painted by the previous owner but never completed before he passed.

The interior has been taken apart in preparation for redo.

Here are some pics:

There is no rust on the car (light surface rust in spots underneath.)

Some of the first things that I want to do is get it running.

A brand new fuel tank, sending unit and fuel pump were installed.

I took out the sending unit and replaced the plastic float with a brass one.

I also added an additional jumper wire to the float arm to potentially prevent issues in the future.

I am not sure about the fuel pump that was installed, it has no identifying marks and is not an airtex or facet. I might just use it for a bit if the pressure checks out.

More to come.

Wayyyyyyyyy better than the "mutt". I said to myself I am never doing one like that again.

Good News! in 4 hours drained the tank, put in improved sending unit. Flared some lines, checked fuel pressure at 4psi.

Fired in 3 seconds! In about 5 min was quiet with no valve ticking.

Had to "hot wire" the motor because the engine wiring is a mess. Not going to win a beauty contest but she runs.

Now at least I can move it around with having to push it.

Not sure what my time frame with this one is, but I am going to put in a 4 speed, corsa accessories and build a 140 for it once I am done with the "mutt's" engine build this winter.

As a bonus I think it has posi! I can not see the numbers on the diff because of the LCA's, but both wheels are locked together in neutral moving in the same direction. Will have to transfer this over to the new diff if needed.

Hearing that it runs makes me feel better about sending it back east. The more I looked at it, the more I was convinced that it would run. But time waits for nobody. Glad it works!

The previous owner welded in some bars from the inner roof rail to the metal near the quarter window to mount seat belts. I think it totally took away from the openness of the coupe design and made it look like a post car.

Much better:

Also the seats that are in the car are nice bolstered seats, however, they must be from a sedan, because they don't tilt forward. Since I do not have original seats I might get a set of these, sort of retro-ish but nice bolsters to keep me in place.

I could also remove the head rest to give it more of a low back look.
