() Date: August 06, 2018 10:23AM This is the start of my next build thread. It is a 65 Monza 110 PG. The car came out of Tulare, CA with the help of Seth Emerson. It was painted by the previous owner but never completed before he passed. The interior has been taken apart in preparation for redo. Here are some pics: ![]() There is no rust on the car (light surface rust in spots underneath.) ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() -Tom ![]() 63' Monza Spyder Convertable (in process) MY Build Thread 62' Wagon rebuild MY Build Thread 65' Monza MY Build Thread 73' NovaSS 454 Big block (Sold) 86' BMW 325es 67' UltraVan 211 "Violet" NFCC, UMCC Grand Island, NY Re: The Tulare 65 Posted by:

() Date: August 06, 2018 10:27AM Some of the first things that I want to do is get it running. A brand new fuel tank, sending unit and fuel pump were installed. I took out the sending unit and replaced the plastic float with a brass one. ![]() I also added an additional jumper wire to the float arm to potentially prevent issues in the future. ![]() I am not sure about the fuel pump that was installed, it has no identifying marks and is not an airtex or facet. I might just use it for a bit if the pressure checks out. More to come. -Tom ![]() 63' Monza Spyder Convertable (in process) MY Build Thread 62' Wagon rebuild MY Build Thread 65' Monza MY Build Thread 73' NovaSS 454 Big block (Sold) 86' BMW 325es 67' UltraVan 211 "Violet" NFCC, UMCC Grand Island, NY Re: The Tulare 65 Posted by:

() Date: August 06, 2018 12:46PM Wayyyyyyyyy better than the "mutt". I said to myself I am never doing one like that again. Good News! in 4 hours drained the tank, put in improved sending unit. Flared some lines, checked fuel pressure at 4psi. Fired in 3 seconds! In about 5 min was quiet with no valve ticking. Had to "hot wire" the motor because the engine wiring is a mess. Not going to win a beauty contest but she runs. ![]() Now at least I can move it around with having to push it. Not sure what my time frame with this one is, but I am going to put in a 4 speed, corsa accessories and build a 140 for it once I am done with the "mutt's" engine build this winter. -Tom ![]() 63' Monza Spyder Convertable (in process) MY Build Thread 62' Wagon rebuild MY Build Thread 65' Monza MY Build Thread 73' NovaSS 454 Big block (Sold) 86' BMW 325es 67' UltraVan 211 "Violet" NFCC, UMCC Grand Island, NY Edited 1 time(s). () Date: August 06, 2018 01:55PM As a bonus I think it has posi! I can not see the numbers on the diff because of the LCA's, but both wheels are locked together in neutral moving in the same direction. Will have to transfer this over to the new diff if needed. -Tom ![]() 63' Monza Spyder Convertable (in process) MY Build Thread 62' Wagon rebuild MY Build Thread 65' Monza MY Build Thread 73' NovaSS 454 Big block (Sold) 86' BMW 325es 67' UltraVan 211 "Violet" NFCC, UMCC Grand Island, NY Re: The Tulare 65 Posted by:

() Date: August 06, 2018 11:35PM Hearing that it runs makes me feel better about sending it back east. The more I looked at it, the more I was convinced that it would run. But time waits for nobody. Glad it works! Re: The Tulare 65 Posted by:

() Date: August 15, 2018 01:42PM The previous owner welded in some bars from the inner roof rail to the metal near the quarter window to mount seat belts. I think it totally took away from the openness of the coupe design and made it look like a post car. ![]() Much better: ![]() Also the seats that are in the car are nice bolstered seats, however, they must be from a sedan, because they don't tilt forward. Since I do not have original seats I might get a set of these, sort of retro-ish but nice bolsters to keep me in place. ![]() I could also remove the head rest to give it more of a low back look. ![]() -Tom ![]() 63' Monza Spyder Convertable (in process) MY Build Thread 62' Wagon rebuild MY Build Thread 65' Monza MY Build Thread 73' NovaSS 454 Big block (Sold) 86' BMW 325es 67' UltraVan 211 "Violet" NFCC, UMCC Grand Island, NY Re: The Tulare 65 Posted by:

() Date: August 27, 2018 12:32PM Well I have only 2 days left of vacation so I figured I'd get the color sanding of the 65 done.... well maybe, only got the roof done in 4 hours after not liking it and redoing it 3x! I swear the paint on this california car rubs out different than the good old more toxic stuff we use here. ![]() Before: ![]() After: (the effort is worth it) ![]() -Tom ![]() 63' Monza Spyder Convertable (in process) MY Build Thread 62' Wagon rebuild MY Build Thread 65' Monza MY Build Thread 73' NovaSS 454 Big block (Sold) 86' BMW 325es 67' UltraVan 211 "Violet" NFCC, UMCC Grand Island, NY Re: The Tulare 65 Posted by:

() Date: August 27, 2018 01:23PM The seats I have in my 66 also don't tilt forward but I don't use the back seat. I can lean the adjustable back far as it goes forward and move the seats forward and it gives me limited access to the back, enough for me anyway. () Date: September 19, 2018 05:44PM Well, the front windshield bond did not look very consistent, well it wasn't, in 5 minutes it was out! It did not bond well in spots. ![]() I guess it gave me piece of mind that there was no rust in there. ![]() Just need to prep well before I reseal. -Tom ![]() 63' Monza Spyder Convertable (in process) MY Build Thread 62' Wagon rebuild MY Build Thread 65' Monza MY Build Thread 73' NovaSS 454 Big block (Sold) 86' BMW 325es 67' UltraVan 211 "Violet" NFCC, UMCC Grand Island, NY Re: The Tulare 65 Posted by:

() Date: September 19, 2018 07:03PM Oh yeah that windshield frame looks typical for western car. Although a lot better than a rust belt car. That's why I always pull the windshield and back window when I do body work in prep for painting even on a western car. If using urethane paint let it cure at least a week before putting down the butyl bead. I leave the paper on one side of the butyl bead and do a test fit before the final glass insert. DO install the trim clips before the butyl bead. I just tried the plastic trim clips and they worked fine with the windshield. Going to give them a try on the back window next month. Good luck. Oh polish the SS trim with this --- [www.harborfreight.com] Works great with a small hand drill. Re: The Tulare 65 Posted by:
