The new garage door is in and the 55 is in it's new home. The 55 has now a straight starting line.

So the Corvair is in the bigger garage to work on it.

I showed my girlfriend how to handle rust and this is the result

Her motivation was away after seeing this. I told her this is an easy task for me to fix it with a piece of metal and my welder. I welded more complicated things in my 55.

To get the car street legal (here in Germany) I had to convert the headlights to H4 and H1 units.
Done

Shouldn't be a problem... if nothing available near you ebay has plenty..

You'll have most likely build small boxes on the rear of the black housing for clearance.

It is done. The pic shows the H4 and H1 unit. It was no big problem there.

H1 is high beam only, the inner ones. No LED allowed in these units.
If you have a new car there are LED lights allowed.

AHH!

Back in the 60's the Motor Vehicle dept. wouldn't allow wheel changes on a car without major testing and Gov. approval..

We Gi's could drive our "imported cars" with whatever was on them when they got off the boat!

Because you win the war and where the occupying force. No american Soldier or civil worker for them had any trouble with german laws. When an american soldier had trouble or an accident with a German, the MP was the Police to call, not the german Police. The laws from the United states and the military laws where the valid laws.

In West Berlin it was harder for Germans, because there was still war, until the breakdown of the Berlin wall and the reunion of both Germanies. The Laws of the allied forces from 1945 where active until 1990.In West Berlin we had no german ID, we had an provisional German ID.
An example, if an allied soldier thought I'm a terrorist or too national proud and representing similar to what the Nazis told them before, he could shoot me with no consequence.

My english is not god enough to describe it in the right words.

Here are some pics of the engine. In two weeks we will pick up the 1964 Buick engine with aluminium heads and intake to save some weight.
