1961 Chevrolet Corvair 95 Rampside

Hello, my name is Markus, 44 years old, I came from Germany (Europe). I'm new in the Corvair scene. But I'm working on old american cars since 1994. I owned a 1969 El Camino, a 1929 Model A RPU (Traditional Hot Rod)and a 1931 Ford Model A Coupe (Traditional Hot Rod too). All these cars are gone. Since 2014 I own a 1955 Chevrolet 150 in Two Lane Blacktop style.

On Wednesday my girlfriend, my daughter and me did a 21 hours trip to the netherlands and back to pick up a 1961 Chevrolet Corvair 95 Rampside Truck.
The truck has a V8 middle engine conversion. It is a 300 cui Buick engine with an unknown auto trans. Rear end is a 55-64 with leaf springs, like my 55 150 chevy, but without the Posi Trac.
It is my girlfriends truck, she felt in love the first minute she saw the truck in the Internet.
It is a project truck. The body is in good condition, but the V8 conversion was build not so good.
The truck needs new suspension, electric, steering parts, side windows.
We want to get the truck 1 or 2" lower, I want the engine / trans hanging a bit lower.
I have to rework the engine and trans mounts, emergency brake, brake lines, stiffen the chassis and welding some small holes.
Maybe I do a disc brake conversion in the front. For safety issues I will put a two circuit master cylinder in it.
My girlfriend dont want the monster shifter in it, she wants a shorter version.

Be nice if it was a "Corvair 95" again.
Looks like it may be one of the last year Rampsides.
Only 851 were built in 1964.
Does the VIN begin with 4R?

It will be a challenge, but there are other Corvair enthusiasts in Europe, some with the Forward Control Corvairs.

I like the truck hauling it. Best and safest way to transport any car. Wish I could find an affordable one here in the states. Eddieb Dade City,fl

Looks like a nice vehicle but I also am partial to original Corvairs. Any Californians recognize this ride? Between the color scheme and the V8 mods I am sure someone would notice this ride.

Cool !

"Growing old is mandatory, growing up is optional"

-64 convertible since -89.....-61 Rampside since -12

The vert is now 54 years old, most of them in Sweden with me and the missus as owners.

It looks like the engine is somewhat inside the passenger compartment like the Ford and Dodge vehicles of the day. Some more pictures of how they did it would be interesting.
I wouldn't do something like that myself but I do admire engineering exercises.
